Updated Description:

OMEGABLADES!

A 2-4 player deathmatch-style game played on a single keyboard. The goal of the game is to rack up as many kills as possible before the time runs out. The movement was designed to mimic a rollerblading experience and players wield Olympic Field Sports equipment to decimate the opposition!!! Waaagh!

Screenshot of the game:

Mechanics:
  • Players use 2 keys to move (left & right) and an additional fire key to use weapon.
  • Moving forward consists of briefly holding the move keys alternately.
  • Turning is possible by holding a particular move key.
  • Turrets constantly shoot equipment into the playing field throughout a match.
  • Weapons include: Fencing Swords, Javelins, Shot Puts, Bows, and Discuses.
  • Four colorful characters are available.
  • Matches end when the game timer expires.
  • Free for All or Team Mode which allows 1v2 or 1v3 or 2v2.

Omegablades was developed in Java so it will playable on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc. Hand Thumbs Up LeftCheesyHand Thumbs Up Right

See original post for download link.

It isn't as polished as we wanted it to be, but it is fully playable. Hope you enjoy the game!  Beer!

Double clicking the jar didn't work. I tried another jar and it worked fine.
So I tried the command line. here's the error it throws.

java -jar Omegablades!.jar

Hi Murilo! The error was caused by incompatible Java versions. We built the game using the latest Java release (Java 7 or 1.7.x). Hopefully, you could update the Java installed on your machine.

To check your version of Java (in command line):
java -version

We will also try to upload a copy of the game that will run on earlier Java releases.

Thanks for trying out the game!  Smiley

Ah yes, I updated it and it's working now! Thanks.

As for the game, the explosion alone was worth the play hahahha
I think I understand the control mechanics, but it's too hard to turn and all. With an easier way to control your player I think this could be a fun deathmatch, especially if it had bots!

Cool concept.  Smiley I could only play by myself, but it was neat once I figured out how to alternate feet properly. Very much like skating for real! Definitely less button mashey feeling than some "press these buttons to go more" games, which was a nice surprise. One thing I did find hard was accurate attacks. I almost always missed, or held a button for slightly too long and did a 90 degree turn instead.

Thanks for playing the game whilefun! Glad you liked the skating concept. Yeah we were trying to avoid a button mashey movement mechanic, especially since up to 4 players can play on the same keyboard simultaneously which can cause input to get stuck on some keyboards. As for the weapon attacks, it takes some practice to get used to but it surely gets easier the more you play. Both the movement and attacks could use some more polishing for sure, so if have some free time off our real jobs, we may continue working with Omegablades. Anyway, we hope you could try to play it multiplayer since that's where the real fun and experience is. Thanks again!  Beer!

I couldn't get this to work properly. It appears to run ok but it looks like the game window is off screen. I can just see the top of the OMEGABLADES title at the bottom of the screen. That was on OS X 10.8 if that helps.
