@lordchibi & @oyog

The jury is still our concerning authors. However, we're pretty sure that we'll have H.P. Lovecraft in; if not as an author, then as an occultist. He'll be handy considering the unspeakable horrors that lure in the shadows of the jungle...

I have a little mockup animation that shows something I have talked about some time ago.
It shows the forming of groups when camping. Depending on their morale, different types of units (e.g. specialists and porters) will either stick together or avoid each other.
While it is possible to handle multiple groups, having too many of them will make it very hard to maintain a stable (i.e. not killing each other) trek.

While units will talk and comment on the players decisions when camping, what you see here is a bit exemplary to get the point across. The little happy and sad smilies stand in for actions that influence the morale of the porters in a good or bad way.
As you can see, treating them good will make the porters join the group of the specialists. However, treating them badly will make them split off from the specialists and form their own little group.

Font, style of the speech bubbles and texts are work in progress and not meant to be final in any way.

I was wondering something, are all natives primitives? It's just that the game draw into racist discourse (not a criticism, just raising awareness) made up to justify these expedition. There was plenty great civilisation, it would be cool if there is some aspect of it into it. I'm a bit disturb to see the last image and see a clear civilized/uncivilized made by skin color when it was inaccurate. It's like depicting dark age europe with only lowly peons with pitchfork and no king, clergy or warrior. Especially when part of the renaissance has root with influence from africa's civilisation (chemistry came from egypt which was name kheim >> kheim mystery >> chemistry, also evident with the apparition of the black madonna prior to modern age conception of ethnicity).

Just putting that here for you to consider.

None of the natives will be primitives (except the neanderthals, maybe).
We want our natives to have a rich culture of their own. They own this land, they have their stuff sorted out - that is, until you come in. This does not mean that the game is only about exploiting and destroying native civilizations; it's up to the player and his decisions how he will treat the natives.

I've already had a very personal and intense experience with how much this can offend people, so all I can say is that we want to approach the topic with the greatest respect to the real history behind it.

When I was talking about civilisation I meant something more like that, not just racism, all the unknown, forgotten and erased richness that was. Just plopping that here not juts for you but to raise awareness, there is so much charged emotion with that that people just try to avoid anything that relate to that.

Whatever you do is good btw, most of the time you see colonial era based game and they entirely revision slavery out of the equation, so you end up with game where there was no slavery and no notable black character (well no character at all), no nothing about where I grew up and still celebrate and romanticize all the worst aspect that have left deep mark. It's not necessarily a problem to romanticize, but avoiding the problem for fun imply a worst discourse they don't seem to be aware of. So it's glad that at least we have some component of it in your game. Too bad neanderthal are extinct they cannot complain about being the de facto dumb person lol (they were has smart as sapiens modern science says, but I think it's okay for pop culture since the mark hasn't been left and no harm is done, same with dinosaur lol How about adding some feathered dinosaur for fun?)

Those are some excellent references! Thanks a lot - also for your encouraging words.
Since we haven't posted anything in a while here is at least something tiny - particle effects!

Small update:
Despite our silence in the last weeks there is a lot of stuff going on internally. I'll prepare a large status update post soon. Until then, I have some more particle effects and new locations for you; a Waterfall and a Mission.

The Waterfall is one of many nature sights that will give you Fame (XP) when it is discovered.
Missions are rare but can be found in any area during your expedition. They are your connection to the "civilized" world, and offer some handy options, especially if you can afford a generous donation to the local priest.
