The best parts were the scientists and Parts Dealer. The other characters were all pretty generic and boring. The ending scene was basically what happened in the Avengers last year. It was a fun and good movie but there just wasnt a lot of imagination

Saw it two days ago, didn't enjoy it at all.  Story was nonexistent, acting was mostly terrible, the only good thing about it was the CG.

Quote from: Del Toro
”I’ll tell you a couple of things. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you’re gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special.”

Prequel would be better anyways (and make way more sense?)

Not much, but everyone seemed to be praising it so I guess that increased my expectations.  I wasn't really planning on seeing it in the first place, but there was a double feature at the drive-in with The Conjuring (which was much better IMO) and Pacific Rim, so I figured I'd get my money's worth and watch both.

I hear a lot of "Pacific Rim lacked substance but the CG was good...etc" What made me fall in love with the movie were the tiny details that del Toro put into the sets. Little things like tubes containing kaiju body parts and the overall atmosphere he built up in both the base and the black market. Del Toro is known for his epic set pieces and costume work, so when I saw how heavily Pacific Rim relied on CGI I was concerned. He delivered though, that movie was damn beautiful and won't have too much of a problem falling apart as it ages.

Well, it has made more than its production budget (of course, no clue on the advertising budget).  It's doing pretty poorly in the U.S., but doing really well in the rest of the world, and has yet to open in China (and given that it takes place in Hong Kong, has fairly cosmopolitan outlook, features a Chinese robot, and has giant robots, it'll probably do pretty well).

After reading mix comments here and there, gave this movie a shot today. And it's that great.

I mean, it had its problems, but still a blockbuster with visceral combat where people actually die is pretty awesome. Also Charlie Day and no whiny teens.

after watching a video of a super attack in super robot wars i came to the conclusion that the thing that pacific rim lacked the most was camera angles and that weird anime time stop where when you do a super attack the bad guys just wait

you know like when power rangers form their robot, no one ever like shot down the pterodactyl or something, what would they have done

that weird emphasis on crazy shit which makes super robots what they are (shut up i know what im talking about)

like ok i dont want to have to explain everything, the game has cartoon proportions cuz its cheaper shut up

what i want to point out is, this super attack animation is nearly a minute long during which time the enemy does nothing (ofc its a tbs), with crazy dramatic zooms on like the pilots face or the robot lifting its improbable sword

then he yells some gibberish or the name of his super attack and you hear nothing else
he is in space

like you dont wanna hear little alerts or the slime of the monster thats not how it works
dammit del toro

hollywood shaky cam is an abomination and a giant robot vs giant monster movie is the last place where you should find it

del toro im a fuckin email you
