This is what I have so far. Parents are about to ground me; chances of me spriting for the next couple of days are slim (unless I'm really sly).

wondering whether or not to have her glow like that... (probably not)

It looks really cool. I think the glow might look really good, but it's hard to tell until you see it in context.

Does she glow in the game? If not, remove it. Otherwise I say check it out and remove only if it looks bad.

When she fires, the screen flashes white for a second.

She also glows white to signal that she has finished charging.

Also, when Xoda uses ANY attack (aside from her 3 hit punch), she is bursting with sky blue smoke.
We could probably make one or two of these animations and apply them to the sprite ingame (just have the animation take place behind her).

Also, I feel that her punching animation needs the yellow blurs of energy.

Yeah, they would. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I'm not good enough to handle smoke effects yet. I'll work on the jumping animation first, then see if I can make a decent edit on the three hit combo.

I dunno... Could the hand be out further so that it's level with her feet. It just feels like it's useless at the moment.

Marginally. The way they're shaded make them look too circular. They're reminiscent of madonnas bra.
