Just curious as I used to prefer Fullscreen, but now with more turn based gaming I prefer playing in a Maximised window so I can still look at other programs, etc..

I'm usually in a maximized window. Want to be able to click off if I'm supposed to be doing homework and my Mom or Dad walks in.

I usually use Alt+Tab for that while in fullscreen. Or, if I want to check an FAQ or something. Windows are too distracting - if a game allows it, I will always go Fullscreen, black bars or no.

Always full screen if possible, but it's important to have a quick keyboard shortcut that will switch to a window at any time. I want full immersion, but I want to be able to switch to another application for a moment if I need to.

Usually in a window or maximized window as of late, especially for turn based games. Even more so for MP turn based.

Borderless Windowed - its basically a faster for alt-tabbing fullscreen mode.

dual monitors = always borderless windowed, so i can switch out without waiting for the game to minimize / maximize

Default full screen in 2D games is a turn-off, especially if the native resolution is something like 320x200 and meant to be pixel-perfect. Full screen might not preserve 1:1 pixel size depending on screen resolution, and some graphics cards cause blurring when scaling.
Also most of the time, the audio is too damn loud and I can't reach the Win7 volume mixer if the game covers up my screen. Combine this with Alt-Tabbing delays and glitches, and chances are I'm already frustrated by your game before I've reached the main menu.

Like Sublinimal, I sometimes play with Windowed mode, since I like to listen to music other than the game's (if it has any) when I play. Some games don't take tabbing from and to full-screen mode very well.

I fullscreen mostly. I dual monitor and it sometimes causes problems with me clicking off screen in certain games but I usually just mirror the display and play on the larger screen.
Alt-tab and some headphones were what kept me playing DOD:S instead of doing my High School work back in the day.

On Windows I always play fullscreen because the only Windows IM I use is Steam and I can use it in overlay mode. On Linux I mainly play windowed mode because the games I play here are usually less immersive and I like to have my Pidgin and Thunderbird windows a click away.

Fullscreen, always fullscreen when possible. It bothers me when games don't support fullscreen. I want complete immersion, even if it's a simple game. If I'm playing a game, I'm not doing anything else at the same time, so I want to focus completely on the game.
If I need to switch out for any reason, I pause and go to windowed, then go back fullscreen and unpause when I'm done.

No, being prepared to switch is not full immersion. Full immersion is fullscreen only (or better oculus rift) and ignoring the rest of the world:P
