Everything looks awesome, are we going to be able to steal the bird hat thing he's wearing and wear it?

@poe I was thinking about having unlockable hats in the game so it would be fitting to get that hat when defeating the witchdoctor.
@IzzyReggie later on in development I might try to make a more opaque boarder, or at least make the HUD nice and pretty.

Just gonna toss some more sprites up here of some more enemy types I just made. I'm in the middle of working on the first boss of the game, once that's done I'll probably record some footage of gameplay. Happy valentines day everyone: *cue exploding cactus*

Lookin' good. Personally, I'd keep the border, though it could use some work I think. The style it was drawn in simply didn't compliment the rest of the graphics. Excellent theme and characters! I'm excited to see what else you come up with.

I'm going to be an arsehole and say something which you probably don't want to hear, which is that I really liked your original 'flamenco" border from way back at the start of the thread. The new one is cool too, though.
Will your hero ever flower? Be kind of nice if now and then he just popped out some little blooms, as certain cacti do. They wouldn't need to have a purpose, just hang around for a bit then fall off again. I'd like that, although I'm not really sure why...

Thanks guys! Yeah I'm going to change that new border it was more just to test the size of it and color scheme, and I'll probably just put an option to turn the border on or off for those who like to see the whole view. As for cactus flowers don't worry they will be included in the game I already have some ideas on how to implement those.

I haven't updated the devlog in awhile, so here's some stuff: Fixed the border As well as added a few new enemy types my favorite being this frog I'm half way done with the the boss of stage 1 and the beginning of stage 2, so hopefully I'll get to post some screenshots of the 2nd stages tiles soon. It's a very different setting from this bland desert.

Yay! Still going!
I was guessing that the entire game would be in a desert setting... but now that you mention it, other settings could be sweet too! Where will the cactus go next, I wonder?

The whole game is set in the desert but i'm trying to keep some variation on different areas. Ideas I have right now are a ghost town, dry river bed, train tracks, cliff slides and such. Level 2 takes place in an underground cave that leads down into an underground lake. It involves crossing the lake with a boat that must be propelled by your cactus shots while avoiding the dangers of the cave.

This looks nice. I like the plot and the enemy designs, and there need to be more games set in the American desert.
