Hey folks! I just want to finally start sharing news about our project called Empire Eden.
www.empireeden.com

It's a hyrbrid Run N' Gun/ARPG. -- Very similar feel to Contra Hard Corps, Metal Slug, Metroid, Castlevania, etc...

http://www.empireeden.com/Demo.html

Come check out the mechanical demo guys! This is not the actual game or anywhere near how it's going to be. This is just a room to mindlessly blow enemies away in.

Kill more enemies to get more medals. We'll have a leader board up soon just for fun. (This won't be any part of the actual final game.)

Collect the enemies souls to use your spirit abilities. Bull form is the only available one right now.

Right now we are in early development stages. I apologize for glitchy looking gameplay, or areas with shotty graphics. Everything will look smooth and blend well in the end.

None of these videos or screenshots are actual maps. They are meerly developers testing rooms. The actual maps look much more appealing. (For example, things like water won't have the hard square edges.)

A little about the story:
You the player will experience an action packed adventure in the form of a tribal native who's tribe was swept away by the Empire's soldiers. Unaware of who the Empire is, and why they have done this sinister act, your main concern is to rescue captured tribesmen/women.

You set your mark on the looming tower in the East. This is the headquarters of the Empire.

As you progress, you uncover the dark secrets of the Empire, and why they have been capturing natives from neighboring tribes across the lands.

Traveling you will meet people who have been affected by the Empire's wicked tools of war, and help them rebuild their communities, fight off the enemy, or escape certain death.

You will build meaningful and lasting relationships with numerous individuals, including a few you never thought you would.

If you make it to the tower, many mysteries will be revealed..but to uncover them all, you must make the right choices. There are multiple endings, which one will you experience?

Mechanics:
Check out the game mechanics video.

I think the video speaks for itself. It's hard to explain what we were going for in words, but this is pretty much it. There are still some more mechanics being added to the game. Feedback is important to us guys. Check out our website and join the forums! Let us know what you think.

A little about us:
My name is Ryan, I'm the artist and creator of this game/story. All of the art I use for Empire Eden is classic Pixel Art! I think its the most nostalgic, and makes for the best games.

Chris is the resident programmer. I actually found him on TigSource around a month ago. As you can see, he works extremely fast. He is very proficient at his trade. Without him, this project would only be a dream of mine.

Luke is the map maker, and also a big part of story/quest contribution. I've known him for years, and we have always talked about making games..So we finally attempted it with this one.

Help us!:
We need your support guys! Follow us on our developers blog, www.empireeden.com/blog post feedback. Tell us what we need to change. This game is for you, not for us. We really want the customer to have the most say in this project.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you want! Also please help us spread the news if you feel like this is the kind of game you want to see completed.

The jumping looks a bit finicky but other than that the movement looks pretty damn nice and smooth and spriting is top-notch. Best of luck with it and the kickstarter. Hand Thumbs Up Right

The jumping looks a bit finicky...

First of all, thanks for the feedback caiys.
We tried to mimic some of our favorite run n' gun games mechanics. This is how Contra did their jump. Can you go into detail a little more on the jump...what you see that could be changed.

I'd like to defend myself a little bit, the video capturing tool we are using isn't grabbing all of the frames. So it's making the game look choppy.

Also thank you for all the compliments.

Kind of in response to the compliment on spriting. -- Posting some more updates as I get them finished. Here is the current death animation for one of the enemies. There will be many death animations on this game, depending on the weapon used.

Hope you guys enjoy, Kickstarting in 2 weeks! Please give us feedback, This game is for you!

(Forgive me mods, if this is a bump..)

I had this topic moved to this section of the forums, but the original date is making it show up in the back. So I was just resurfacing it. -- Updates include this nice little review done by indiestatik .....   http://indiestatik.com/2013/02/26/empire-eden/

Hey guys, as Lead Programmer here at New Horizon Gaming, I'd like to reach out to you, the community. This game is still very early in development, we are hard at work on a playable demo but how quickly this can happen and how successfully we can be with creating the best, most action packed and awe inspiring game possible relies on you! If this game looks like you idea of a good time, then help spread awareness! Post links to our kickstarter page on your twitter, write about us in your blogs, tell your neighbors that there's a new action rpg in town and he's missing his loin cloth! Only you can help us cloth our bare naked hero and save him from excessive shame!

Big News!! We've released a playable minigame for you guys to stress test the mechanics, called DeathWave Arena!

You can download it here:

I'm looking forward to getting to play this in the future. The art simply blows me away. So colorful and crisp. The movement could use some tuning but the game is still early and I'm sure you'll figure it out.  Grin Grin

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll look into some options for improving that, possibly including a sort of glowy effect for it instead maybe.
