Running XP on a MacBook Pro atm. me too and i fucking loathe that thing. i really trully, deeply, passionatly hate windows. having to switch to windows on the mac to play some game or use some software is the bane of my existence. boot camp beta aint perfect, and the windwos software dosent always play nice with the mac hardware. there's just so many little annoyances. and im an interface whore. i like my interfacing with my machines to be as smooth and hassle-less as possible. hopefully the next boot camp will be magical and just allow me to run anything i want natively on my precious mac.

Yeah that's what I imagined installing windows on my comp would be like, I would really learn to hate it.

Hmm, I haven't noticed any annoyances with using Windows on MBP.
But then again I also don't have a stick wedged up my ass.

Was this in any way directed at me, since I asked how having windows on you mac runs? My point wasn't that Apple was 100% 'indie' it was more that it is more 'indie' than windows, and therefore it is surprising to me (but obviously not you guys) that the vast majority of indie games for computers are on not on an 'indie' system, like Linux, Unix or whatever. That is what I think is an interesting point to ponder, not apple or windows hating.

as much as I hate to break up a mac subthread...
out of sheer curiosity, what is the ratio of freeware to shareware/commercial games in the list so far?
I'm too sick to do it myself

Something else to add?

I think another thing to have would be language. For instance, Shoot the Bullet is only playable in Japanese, not English. So for games that are not in English a note is probably a good idea.

Wow, I can't believe you've linked all the games! Congrats! I spelt Rameses wrong - sorry about that. You can get it here: http://www.wurb.com/if/game/922

Liero should probably be on there. Incredibly intense hotseat multiplayer game that has inspired a lot of games, including Cortex Command. http://www.liero.be/

I don't want to start up the definition argument again, but whether Alien Hominid is indie or not is questionable because it had like a million dollars in funding -- if you're going to include that, include Dofus too, but I personally wouldn't call any game with over a budget of over a million dollars independent. I wouldn't mind/object if they were there, I just wouldn't list them myself.

This is precisely why I'm asking you guys My first thought is not to inclde them since they already have a good exposure to the gamers. I'm thinking that a new indie gamer might want to hear from something else instead of what he may already know.

"The game suggestion thread in the forum is stymied by hand wringing over genre classifications. There is a real push for discussion to stay open-minded. The message is that games should be considered as games, not implementations of genres. Oh, UNLESS the game in question fits the “match-3” genre. Then burn it straight to hell! And crassly insult the artwork and people that made it! Fuck it! If I, a 20-something male, can’t enjoy it, then it isn’t indie! Period! But please don’t call these other games “platformers”. No, it’s not fair; they have subtle improvements past the genre definition and it would unjust to narrowly define their artistic greatness in those confines." (from front page comments)
Woot!

The thing about that is, matching 3 things of the same color is a much lower-level mechanic than platforming is. One is basically a 'perspective' or 'camera view' on the action (2D side-view), the other is a specific action mechanic. So it's harder to have a wide variation of match-3's than it is to have a wide variation of platformers.
