As for the graphics, everything appears to be pillow shaded. Those statues for example should be paying attention to the light source of the candle. Right now the candles appear to have almost no effect. Lighting is very important for atmosphere.
You can't do that without a normalmap (the only game using 2D graphics that has proper lighting that I know of is Normal Tanks). Not like that makes the criticism any less valid. In particular, it seems that the shading consists of "distance in pixels away from the contour lines", while usually it's better for the lighting to come from a direction (generally from above, often diagonal too).

@s-spooky g-g-ghosts, completely agreed. This is something I want to implement soon. And thanks! @Torchkas, @Sik, I agree that shading isn't the best. I don't think I'm very good at it, but I'd like to improve. I don't have much time to spend, unfortunately, and if I spent more time on shading, it'd take me a long much time to draw a single sprite. Do you know any good tutorials on shading? @Swifty, Looks very beautiful and polished. Great job.

I think the scale is wonky. Those flowers and that well (in particular) are massive compared to the guy. That well could hold elephants. The bucket is probably the size of an entire person.

Gotta agree. It seems as though the tileset and characters are made for different games. With the scale and detail of the character I'd expect a smaller scale in the environment and a greater sense of detail on the bold statements within the world.

Thanks for the feedback! You're right, I'm still establishing the style and scale has been a tricky thing to get right. I'll rework the well so it's more inline with the players. The flowers I understand are quite big - and I think the reason for this is that I don't have any small flowers yet, so all we're seeing are the large. Once I sprite up the small batch, I'll use the large ones more sparingly, which should solve them
