trying to do a sort of minimalist terminal GUI to get started. currently using Unity's Text UI element and updating it with a script, but the text disappears sometimes on update frames and it's weird and annoying to see it happen. i'm sure there's a better way to do this but at least it's kinda working for now.

Very early prototyping stages! Mostly just exploring ideas atm.

Wow this is the best looking prototype stage I've ever seen. Just doing all these particle effects would take me forever...

Ah, thanks! I pretty much just slapped down a default Unity particle emitter. Nothing special! I'm trying out some time-slowing stuff and I wanted to see what particles looked like in slo-mo. The verdict: pretty cool.

ARRGH the pallet. It's so beautiful. So stylish. What the hell is 3D and 2D in this? The tree looks like a billboard. The player looks like a sprite that updates at a certain angle. The pond looks 3D. It seems like it would be a lot easier just to make everything in 3D and let the camera do the hard work on the angles. But wow. Interesting!

Nothing is actually 3D. It's just visual trickery. The pond for example, has a dirt layer under it that changes the x/y that it draws at based on the angle. Like Notababyelephant said, it has a certain aesthetic/charm to it, but it's also because I don't have any experience working with 3D. I use Game Maker, and this kind of stuff would not be simple if using their built-in 3D support (And GM is primarily a 2D game creation tool anyway). Here's a new GIF BTW. Just finished up the bird behavior. I also recently changed the game's base resolution to 384x216 (Old resolution was 320x180).

It looks phenomenal. The "nothing is actually 3D" irks me tho, it's a very vague statement -- you're still most likely storing the height of things (judged by the flying things) which is very much 3D. Even if there is no z-buffer or hardware acceleration or such.
The rotation with an orthogonal view can be a little disorienting, I'd go quite slow with those.
