Working on a prototype that's supposed to look like a child's drawings. Thinking about adding lighting but the flat colors might convey better what I'm going for, will try it out.

Both waves and splash? Very nice!
It looks great for the bullets, but when the player jumps in it the splash breaks suspense of disbelief a bit.
Maybe you can tweak the values for a different-looking splash when player entities hit the water?
Yeah absolutely! I have to make some new splash effects depending what object hit the water! It seems I am still on the water theme because today I made rain for Scatteria:

Back to the game's roots - working on a ZX Spectrum themed palette. Legit speccie colours only (though I've allowed myself the luxury of no attribute clash)! Think I'm going to call it 'Arise, Sir Clive!'.

My daughter really wanted to play a game with a mermaid. There aren't many, so she said we should make one. Well, so I began working out in something for her. At this point, when out of the water the mermaid sings and emits soundwaves. When underwater, she has a bubble attack.

Our game is called Shwip, a twin-stick bullethell inspired by Geometry wars. We're in early access now, should be full launched in a month or so. It's been combined effort of two people, myself included.

The game is called Chromosome Evil and its an RTS/RPG set in a zombie universe, not a classic zombie - a chemical experiment universe but rather a zombie demons Cthulu universe inspired from love craft.

Partial, weapons tested in gif yes when equipped they auto shoot if the enemy is in range but some weapons like RPG and other special weapons need to be targeted manually Nice mermaid approach, would recommend some parallax backgrounds for depth effect
