Hello everyone!

I'm a programmer, but I like dabbling in music. I would appreciate if people could critique some of my stuff. Here's my experiment at experimenting with drum/bass/chip:
http://soundcloud.com/ekun/messing-around-with-some-new

I have some other small stuff on my soundcloud page, but I'm still learning.

Thanks!

Music for the next episode episode of Tales of the Renegade Sector.  It'll be played as the player explores a swamp.

Hey Alec, I'm all caught up and looking forward to the next episode. The new track sounds great too.

Thanks!   Beer!  It's been a long time coming, but I think this upcoming episode will be one of the best so far.

This track is meant to be background music for Connectorium. It's still work in progress:

Note that this is game intended for children. I'm having a hard time translating the music from piano to something more orchestral on the computer. I'd love any feedback you have!

Hey Poya,

Pat Knows - definitely got a child-like feel. I can't help but feel that the marimba's release time is too short - it ends up sounding a little like a synth - perhaps some reverb would help there. It just sounds a little synthetically short to me sometimes. It's a decent composition though. Perhaps consider making the upper off-beat strings pizz as well? Just an idea - i guess because pizzicato tends to send more releastic than the sort of marcato strings you have at the moment. They don't come off as light and bouncy as one might like - i have this issue with strings too!

here's my offering - progressive-ish chip Smiley

I agree. The marimba is too loud, especially the higher notes around 0:30-0:35. Make it a little softer and as Calum said, add a little reverb.

Also I'd like to say that bring the marimba closer to the center. I think it's too far on the left, especially since there's nothing to balance it on the right, but I guess that's because of the loudness and how that makes it too dominant.

Overall it's a fun little tune Smiley

Thanks Calum and Eigen for the awesome feedback. I will definitely try all of these. I was already thinking about pizzicato on the violas as well. I'm using Vienna Instruments (Special Edition) which has fantastic samples, but I'm finding it challenging to make the sections sound nice together. Will definitely try adding some reverb to the marimba and backing it off a bit. I actually hadn't done any panning yet.

Really like that track Calum, especially the bass line works great and sounds full. I have feedback...but I'm not sure if you are looking for it especially from an amateur Tongue

milehighscientist is noise and sound design experiments, and the gbsr sets are just random electronic shit.

with that said, yes, i probably can(?) and want to make music for your game Wink

@poya - definitely definitely give me that feedback! the bass (as with almost every other synth in this piece) was made in NI's massive. Can't remember too much about making it - simple square wave i think! Smiley

Here's some of my music. Sometimes I write just for funsies and not for anything specific, but usually I do game-music kind of stuff because game's are fun! Music is even more fun. Game music is the mostest funner.

Here's a set of some tunes I did for my fast-food-tycoon game (development on halt). I was trying to keep things fun with the music. With some exceptions, namely Musings Of A Disgruntled Busboy, which was written with a certain image in mind.

http://soundcloud.com/eigen/sets/fast-food-frenzy/

But I've also done more serious stuff. Here's the track I like best myself. I'd love to accompany it with visuals. I know exactly what it should be but I have no means of doing it myself. Sadly.

http://soundcloud.com/eigen/elemental-express

I also have a couple of tracks with vocals. Here's one, which is in Estonian so it probably sounds a little weird to you. Yes, my singing voice is high like that, I used to be in an emo/postrock band once, so it suited well. Kind of. I even won some best-vocal award in a local band competition. That should tell you how shite everyone else must've been ...

http://soundcloud.com/eigen/void

Looking forward to feedback so I know what to improve in the future. Though, I won't be singing anymore ... that's for sure. Rest of the music can be found by clicking the SoundCloud link in my signature. I have a few more there.

Later, I'll give a listen to stuff posted here and try to give some feedback Smiley
