I'd thought of that actually; I've messed around with PXTone a little bit, and it seemed pretty good.  That's what YMM now uses unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah I do.  I still haven't gotten around to making an extension out of it, but I use the DLL.  If you Google PXTone Game Maker it should come up.

You can get it here: http://www.cursesfoiled.co.uk/?page_id=10

Oh, and when you use it, make sure to shut the DLL down before the game closes. It tends to crash otherwise.

This is a great resource. Thank you all! I've been in the prototyping process with game maker for a while, and I wish I had found this source before I bought the book "Game Maker's Apprentice" (although it's a great resource, too).

I have yet to fully dabble into game maker, but its interface is pretty easy, yet I'm worried that it may not be complex enough.

Anyway, again, thanks!

It's complex enough. It's probably more complex than most programming languages, because it includes a lot of built-in stuff that those require libraries for. Although that probably depends on what you mean by complex.

Hello this is Pencerkoff

After using this tutorial, I'm practically in tears over the year and a half I wasted using Multimedia Fusion.  Can we rename this topic "If you're using MMF be sure to do this first before you throw your life away".

Having the option to just code something directly was like a forbidden dark magic in MMF, and now I'm free to make something that doesn't suck because MMF won't be holding me back anymore.

MMF is officially the Democracy of game programming and GM is the Communism.  I can't wait for the next tutorial.

The Game Maker logo does indeed look much like the communist logo of the USSR.
