I agree with Melly, actually. Although if we re-DISCUSS, it will turn into the old thread. I think this poll will help narrow the discussion down somewhat.

Really though, I was always up for Derek and a crack team of TIGers to make the final decision. I only compiled the results because they were there, and messy, and I figured ya'll could do with some Categorising.
What I think absolutely needs to happen is a quick thinning of the ideas that just won't happen.  And sorry to rain on the parade, but Giant Naked Men happens to be one of them; if TIGS want's to be seen as a respectable site, we can't go around having competitions about GNM games.  That said, a GNM game could be made under a different compo heading.

I'd vote to have Derek and some high level TIGers cut out the crap and get it down to just the feasible ideas.  You know, we could even create a new thread in a certain crib and make the decision there.

Nonsense. I can think of nothing more EPIC than what might appear if we held a Giant Naked Men contest. And I can't think of anywhere better than TIGSource to hold a contest like that.

I'm inclined to think that the collective membership of this forum has more than enough creative talent to deal very successfully with such a theme as GNM.  I didn't vote for the idea myself, but I have no problems with it at all (indeed, I think I might quite enjoy it).

We could call it a Barbarian compo. But we would know it was about GNM.

I think the compo should be renamed GNP, to avoid sexism.

I don't think we need to avoid GNM because we want to be 'respectable'. If there are enough people here who are brave/perverted enough to vote for it, then we shouldn't be ashamed of who we are!

People! Brothers and sisters! The human body is not a thing to be ashamed of! It is not a thing of perversion to marvel at its natural elegance and beauty! Nor is it a sin to create the likeness of its magnificent features, of its upper regions and nether, just as nature has conceived them! Repent now from your outmoded and prudish ways, repent!, for the day of the Giant Naked Men is near!

Valid point.  Also: the original giant naked man was, I think, a woman, so.

If they do GNM, two months later, there will be a new competition. Besides, someone might actually do a tasteful GNM that would make it all worth it.

I still think GNM only has sillyness going for it. It doesn't seem to create any kind of inspirational focus. Just make a game, whatever it is, and slap a naked person in it.

For the lulz.

Hmm.  Well, one could get a lot of boss-style games from it, probably some shadow-of-the-collosus-type ones as well.  Maybe also some black-and-while style have a pet-giant that goes around stomping and smashing on things sort of game.  Maybe even a game where you stomp and smash on things yourself.  Or maybe you're a good sort of giant, and you have to help all the little people with their bigger-scale tasks.  Or one could have a game that would maybe have a giant trying to find clothes that were big enough to fit him.  Or maybe a game exploring the aesthetic dimension of the male nude (many classical sculptures were larger-than-life, so would fall into the category of 'giant naked men').  Also: greek gods ftw.  Or maybe 'giant' in the sense of being a giant of crime, you could play a yakuza overlord controlling his criminal empire from his gang's bathhouse.  Or maybe a game somehow based on "The Emperor's new clothes".

None of these ideas are entirely arbitrary, I think.

Sure it might be 'abused' in the way you describe.  But...I can't help but think there might be a lot of charm to be got from an arbitrarily existing giant naked man.

It doesn't have the technical focus that the PG comp did.  And it doesn't present itself with such a diversity of options as the Demake/VGNG competitions did.  Anyway: I do think your concerns have good basis.
