Hey guys I’m about to start my first real game music composing job and the guy
I’m working with asked me to give him my rate… Can any veteran game composers give me some advice as to how much I should charge?
Per hour of time I spend working? Or per minutes of music?
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I paid a musician per song, but I think the most common unit is per minute of music.

I'm only just starting out myself but I would agree that per minute of music is the most common upfront rate of pay. Ultimately its up to you, you can always do a combo of up front rate per minute of music with a bit of profit share as well (so if the dev's up front budget is tighter than you might like, you can negotiate).
Hope this helps, as I said I'm only just getting into this game myself so my advice could just be nonsense! Smiley
