Hey everyone! I'm new to TIG, new to game development. Nonetheless I'm making a game. We're making a game. We are a group of three - One for the code, one for the visuals (me) and the last one is helping us with the story a bit. We're all new to development. We're using Unity and Photoshop for all we've done till yet and are still in search for some sounddesigner for the music / sounds.
Anyway, about Olav & the Lute: We're heavily inspired by the old adventure Loom - in terms of the mechanic. You play Olav, a small creature, awakening in a mysterious Cave to find a prophecy, a lute, and a giant loom-like artefact. Objects in the game world have an essance in form of a melody. Like a key has it's own melody. If you play the key-melody on the giant Door which is blocking your way - it will open. Like in Loom, you'll be able to reverse some melodies, to close a door for example. Currently we're still working on the mechanics. We've got a selfmade Pathfinding and most of the functions already exists. We already figured the game logic and it's now about creating the content and assembling it. The game will stay small and short. Nothing big but something worth the time - so we hope.

Looks really fun. I'm getting a "Another World" vibe from the visuals.

Thank you all for the motivating feedback! Right now we're refining the game-logic and the user controls. Never done such a thing, it's exciting and challenging! And a new area is in the drawing phase. As soon as there is something to show I'll post it here! edit:

That looks really good! The funny thing is that I'm also creating a sort of old school adventure with 2 friends, the division of tasks between us looks a lot like yours, we're also aiming for something short and we're all new to game development as well ...we're using HTML 5, though. Loved the art, looking forward for more art and dev updates =]

Somebody has to carry the torch now that LucasArts is closed eh? You can never have too many adventure games.

An update But by the ancients gods! How will Olav cross the gap? Thanks all! It's really motivating to see people care! What is of interest: Is it clearly understandable that it's a chasm (canyon) ?

Looks like a chasm to me. If you're worried about it you could put a gradient on it but it looks good to me.

this games has peaked my curiosity i would make the chasm cut all the way to the background so you can see sky and so you don't ask "why can't I just walk around it".

Thanks all for the replies. Right now we just have to continue generating content. We have a pretty good plan of what we want to do. When we didn't underestimate the work to be done (which we probably have), we'll be done around July-August. I'm leaving Earth for an Month, since I've been ordered for a special top-secret mission in outer space about which I'm only allowed to talk in Independent Gaming Forums. So it'll be silent here in the post for a bit. But don't dispair! The Randolinviens are nothing to us, the mission will end quickly and development will continue! Thanks a lot for the good comments!

I'm back to work. Updates will come soon and hopefully frequent. https://vine.co/v/b9XQ9E5MEJba 4-frame cycle. it's not perfect. it's not smooth. and it's not even good. I know. ButI really suck at animating, and since it's only a minor one-time animation in the game, I will continue to work on other things for the moment. ---- he's grinding at the end. yes. no. it's not intented. he learned it himself.

Looks super awesome! I really appreciate a game that has a so well-defined style without going into pretentiousness. It looks very interesting and aesthetically pleasing, and the ideas seem to be good without being too up in the air.
What I'm trying to say is that I think that the indie game scene has been plagued by too big words and too little honest-to-god amateurish craft. The mspaint-ish look of this reminds me of something else. At the same time it's clearly visible that the art is actually of high quality, behind the mspaint look.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this.
