"179 Appearance of an ancient god in a lonely and archaic place—prob. temple ruin. Atmosphere of beauty rather than horror. Subtle handling—presence revealed by faint sound or shadow. Landscape changes? Seen by child? Impossible to reach or identify locale again?"

 Gentleman

More on this later, just staking my claim on this idea.

Edit1: Got a title. Art and design tonight...

Take a look under that idea.  I'll think you'll find my placeholder there.   Tongue

May the best man be devoured by the old ones!  Gentleman

Also, during a correspondence on this topic, gmail served me up a cafe press add for lovecraft hoodies. Naturally I investgated and came across this little number:

Initial concept art.

The art style will be sketchy like the above with quick marker colouring and the look of animated doodles.

The game will center around the child called into an abandoned set of buildings in his dreams. A series of tasks will be lain before him by an unseen observer who is not trying to deter him but to make his journey meaningful.

Hrm. maybe because they're on my site and it's shitty, shitty, hosting. Try again, if not you can goto the site (Link in sig) but please pardon the awful look and lack of functionality until i finish getting it up and running again.

Also: Anyone have any nice ambient musicI can use in exchange for credit?

I can see them. They look very good. Will the doodles jitter around all the time?

I plan to have the sprites jitter but not the backgrounds and platforms etc. hopefully that wont be too conflicting

The concept I am going for is this will be the child's (suggested in the commonplace) recollection of the events drawn on paper and acted out in game.

It will be a short game, maybe a 10 minute playtime but it will have style and heart.

Hello this is Pencerkoff

Sprites:

Is that animation you crossed out supposed to be the guy doing a cartwheel?  Because that should go back in.  You may need a few more sprites to make it look good, so hopefully you don't have a 3 sprite limit.

The crossed out one was a 3 frame jumping sheet.

Instead, I opted for the 3 images per pose like the other stances. (if that makes sense)

It would look strange if he was jittery while walking and tsanding but then for the 3 forms of jumping (crouch, leap, fall) he was static.

A cartwheel would be a neat flourish. I'll add it in if I have time. This project is already a big undertaking for me (it's my second game) and I'm dangerously behind schedule as well.

Hopefully Fallout 3 will have mercy on this poor programmer and give me time to work on this.

If my computer were better I wouldn't finish this competition at all because of Fallout 3.  But I can't run it so instead I make my own game for fun...

sigh...

Update:

My surgery was moved up from December first to November 3rd so I am currently in recovery mode.

I hope I can manage to do some work on this while I'm healing but we shall see. I'll keep the thread updated.

In better news: I'm doing just fine  Beer!
