Hello every one
I open this topic to anounce you a new contest I organize with Visages du Monde (an art center in Cergy, France [close to Paris])

It's called the No Future Contest and is part of the Retro (no) Future Festival which will take place in Cergy in October. It's a one month contest where you'll have to use retro-future constraints and a theme (anounced on June 15th).

The 15 "best" games will be displayed on arcade cabinets during the festival, and there also are 3 awards to win : Public award, jury award and homebrew award (800€ for each).

You can find more informations here : http://oujevipo.fr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=941 (in english) or here http://oujevipo.fr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=939 (in french).

If you're interested, you can register right now here http://oujevipo.fr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=940&Itemid=1 (there's no registration fees or anything like that)

It's the first time I take part of something like this, I'm very excited, and I hope a lot of super cool games will be made!  Beer!

This looks really interesting, I love the idea of customizing the arcade cabinets to the games and the rules are fun too (although there are quite a few, even just to pick from). I was wondering about the homebrew category though, what constitutes this?

Also, it sounds like quite a long/ambitious project in total so I was wondering if the the creator can do anything with his entry prior to the festival? That is there's no rules against being able to put it up online, etc etc.

The homebrew category is for homebrew games, made for an old console (like atari, game boy, dreamcast...)

Of course the creator remains the owner of his game, so he can do anything he wants about it, before, during and after the festival, the only restictions are
-allowing us to publish it on the website until the end of the festival
-allowing us to display it on the festival if it win Smiley

Cool, sounds great. I'll look forward to seeing some of the homebrew stuff then.

I tried the links and they go bad gateway.  Came to see what the theme was.

The theme is 'Work it' ('Au travail' in french), there was a mockup of a newspaper's first page with headlines about various topics related to work/employment, most of these in a tongue-in-cheek tone.

A friend and I are gonna make something, if anyone's interested in joining us let me know... we're looking for a graphic artist mostly. Smiley

so what will the 12 games that are selected to show at that museum, but don't win one of the 800 euro prizes (15 - 3 = 12) get? nothing? that seems kind of exploitative; they get to show your game for free and they don't give you anything at all

I may seem explotative, but you will probably get you some exposure like most contest. It's more than what most free contest offer.
And I honestly don't think the museum will get any money from it. They will spend some to get your customized arcade cabinets.
This kind of public establishement only get a budget every year for all their activity. They choosed this activity, whish I found great. Of course they sell tickets, but the money from it will be use to finance other public activity. No one will become rich.

I would probably prefer to have 6 winners with half of the prize value.

I didn't participate myself. I just found the subject not inspiring.
