Background: You wake up in a carousel floating in the sky. Mysterious lady tells you that you are stuck in limbo/purgatory, and forces asks you to save her friend. Your quest begins!

Limbo is comprised of many different "worlds", which are actually manifestations of souls that are waiting in limbo. Npcs in these worlds will have quests for you, to resolve any attachments to the living world they still have.

<spoiler>
There is a flip side of limbo, the "ghost realm", which is like a crazier and more abstract parallel realm to limbo, and can be visited through dimensional portals. Portal locations will match up between the two realms, but level structure may not. In the ghost realm, the player can freely float around the level without being affected by gravity. The player may also encounter important items or spectral enemies.
</spoiler>

The gameplay will focus mostly on platforming/battle and some puzzle elements. Plot and characters are pretty important. Different player choices can lead to different endings. We'll only have a few though; we're not going to go crazy.

I'm doing art/programming, Sam English and Calum Bowen are making sweet tunes/sfx, and my friend Kyna is helping us with character design/art.
We don't have an actual name yet, but it's in the works!

So far we have the general story, some of the worlds' characters/designs, movement/basic attacking/inventory/dialogue system, and the intro script for the mysterious woman. I might work on a demo to show off the game's main mechanisms, unless you guys would rather wait for a legit tutorial.
But yeah, let us know what you think  Grin

lololololo

unfortunately, that is not a beard. we'll have closeup pictures in dialogue to clear up any confusion:
but if everyone also thinks it looks like a beard, I'll change the color or remove it!

not much to report, been working on art assets that are too spoilerish to show, and sachi's writing the script for the first world. it's going to be MAGICAL SCHOOL THEMED

thanks for your support guys!

Really digging the pastel palette, here. And 'earthbound-inspired' is always nice.

As for the school, perhaps some scattered brickwork to break up the solid-colored wall?

wowowow thanks so much everyone! : D

rrffh finished the idle and jump animations.

now working on school interior. I'm going to add a garden as well, but for some reason I'm having trouble designing a garden in sidescroller view.

@Plasticware: thanks for the feedback! yeah, it did look pretty plain. how's this look?

@mushroomized: this question has been asked to every gamedev ever.

the only thing im wondering is why there's aa outside the sprite itself...

looks like a thing in the entire art direction, but the player character sprite definitely suffers from this.

it'll look kinda bad depending on what background it's against. unless EVERY background is this soft/white color
