Hi!

This is an early concept build for which I'm looking for some feedback on the very basic mechanics of the game. I realize that it isn't that intuitive at the moment, so please read the instructions section. It's not complicated, you just need to know a few things.

The goal is to build large ships and structures and fight of aliens (no aliens in the current build).

You start small with a tiny ship and the rest is up to you. The general approuch is to gather resources, refine and combine them into something cooler.

Prereqs

* XNA Redist (will change as soon as I get the time to switch to MonoGame with SharpDx, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914)
* .net 4.5 if the launcher is used, otherwise .net 4.0

Download

http://spacealot.blob.core.windows.net/release/Paperspace0.04.zip (updated with fullscreen)

or use the launcher that will check for updates when started. Ignore the account registration, just hit launch when 100% downloaded.

http://spacealot.blob.core.windows.net/release/Launcher.exe

* Unzip and run BananaWinGame.exe (Banana was the previous codename Smiley )

Instructions

PLEASE READ or it will be hard to run the game in it's current state.

The controls are

ASDW = Moving around.

W accelerates your ship
S stops it almost immediately
A and W rotates your ship around the center of gravity/mass

R and F = Zooming (important)

C = Construction mode

Left mouse = Pick up and drop stuff. The same scheme as MineCraft at the moment
Right mouse = Shoot (when not in construction mode)

The radar displays the nearby asteroids. Start by zooming out to get a good view. The asteroids marked white are the largest (over 50 tons in mass).

Navigate to an asteroid and unleash the power of your lasers at it. Hopefully you'll get some resources flying of in space. Pick them up by being close.

Many resources need an initial refinement to be useable. Place them on the left side item holder (with ship pointing up) and the processor should refine them.

When you have refined stuff you can build more complicated stuff in the 3x3 construction zone on your upper left.

Fill with all STEEL to build STEELPLATES that you can expand your ship with
A frame of STEEL with an empty middle will give you a STORAGE UNIT
A frame of STEEL with CHIP in the middle will give you another PROCESSOR

Check out the videos if this seems strange Smiley

Cool game, looking forward to the finished result!

And some feedback:
It's hard to realize that the ship is moving when it's just a static background.

Thanks for the feedback. There is actually small white dust particles moving if you look closely. Perhaps I'll have to make them a tad larger. Thinking about a kind of fake parallex background/foreground to get a 3D sense going.

Also the ship accelerates way faster the more zoomed out you are. Otherwise the ship would be unmanageable at zoomed in and superslow when zoomed out.
