A business (also called firm or an enterprise) is a legally recognized organizational entity designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers. A business needs a market. ======================================================================================= Bob Alcohol Rehabilitation

I always liked this ladder of steps: * An idea is not a design * A design is not code * Code is not a demo * A demo is not a program * A program is not a product * A product is not business * A business is not profits * And profits are not happiness
Since business sometimes eats peoples lives. We should strive for happiness, and business (income) is definitely a step to help with happiness, but by no means all of it. Edit: Replace "code", "demo" etc. with the words that fit to your business. This was written from a programmers point of view, for programmers, but works as well for many other fields.

Uh, oh ... The me is stupid, although I was wondering about the persons posts already. @Cagey: Each step is a success already. And even the longest path starts with the first step. So don't let this bring you down. It's just an reminder for the workaholics.

How do you guys go about monetizing your games? I make a small amount less than 500$ annually through a mix of donations and advertisements on the website. The game itself is a stand-alone download. So, when users play, ads are no longer shown. The ads are only on the website. Have any of you with downloaded games, tried placing ads in game? What was the user response? Where do you look for sponsorships? Im more interested in keeping my users happy than making money. Still, I rent a server, so I do like if the game can continue covering its expenses

Ads in downloadable games are pretty rare, I don't think I've ever seen it before. Usually it's downloadable games as shareware and ads in Flash games. So I can't really give advice on monetizing something in that way since I don't know anybody who has ever done that.

I've seen people putting Google Ads in the help file that comes with the game. It was that Ninja Ragdoll Screensaver, I believe.
