This is some great pixelling, also this looks very fun. I can't wait to try this with 3 friends in class Smiley I'd pay for this.

If you're the pixel artist, are you open to future (paid) colabs?

haha awesome idea!  like a stun attack with little "waiting on on hl3" status effect bursting off player while he's stunned Smiley

 Big Laff EPIC!

btw 4 player bomberman was some serious fun back in the day, I would so play this over and over with that feel.

wow thanks for the support guys!  i'd been worrying the ultra-low res pixel stuff might be a bit too niche- really cool to be reminded of all these pixel fans out there!

nachobeard
yeah i'd be open to working on other projects for sure- it'd be fun working with other artists Smiley tho i have my hands full with so many monsters and special effects and design issues atm, i dunno how long til i have any spare time!

guess i will be looking for contract work some time tho, as both of us working on the game quit dev jobs at ea to give this a try, so i dunno how long we can survive eating mostly just toast and beans and burning through our savings!

Binarymichael
yeah playing bomberman 4 players on snes with the multitap was awesome!

just finished first pass on the hud: (all the hud in trailer is just debug text)

i'm not 100% happy, but it's definitely an improvement... this is the first place the low res has caused any real trouble- so much info to squeeze into so few pixels and i don't want it to take up half the screen!

are there "safe frame" requirements for pc at all?  i seriously hope not!

Cool, you'll probably not remember anymore at that point, but I'll probably get in touch in a few good months.
Keep up the great work!

I love the mechanics of the gameplay, with the whole player hero/monster dynamic. Sounds arcadey and pure fun with more than enough room for friendly competition. Very cool.

You've got some great ideas too for monster control/behaviour/unique attributes and balancing difficulty for both the hero and the monsters.

Props on the pixel art and animation, It's top notch. So much detail and character in such a limited working space. Def some of the best I've seen.

Good luck to you guys with this Smiley

Dang that's some great animation/style. Looks awesome! Did you use SFXR/BFXR for the sounds? Good luck

thanks for the encouraging words guys!!

here is a combo anim I just finished

higher level weapons go deeper into the combos, so you get more powerful and extravagant moves as you get more gear / upgrade etc

oh yeah Prospekt- yep sfxr ftw!  that program is awesome, used it for all sounds so far

That actually sounds really awesome. It would be cool if when you died whichever monster controlling player who does the best (whatever best would mean in a game like this) is the defending player next. That way the last player who was brutally beaten by waves of monsters can beat up the guy who beat him up.
