Are you sure it wasn't Duke Nukem II? There was a flamethrower in that game, and you could use it like a jetpack Can't find a screenshot of that, though). That mighta been it! It was either that, or the (identical?) GBC Duke game.

There was this platformer which was probably shareware. While selecting the difficulty; Easy, Medium and Hard; Easy showed the character you were playing as a baby, Medium was just like your character really was and Hard was like a masculine guy. The first level was in a forest and the second was in a laboratory where you would have to fight robots and collect nuts and there was a story with a doctor in it and the character was maybe in a blue suit. That difficulty select sounds a lot like Jazz Jackrabbit. Does anything in look familiar?

From what you've described it sounds alot like a mix of Jazz Jackrabbit and Megaman... Perhaps it was Jazz Jackrabbit 2?

Maybe, probably. I can't be sure though. I can't find like a preview/trailer/commercial for it or anything on youtube. Sorta looks like it, but I thought the game I had in mind had more attitude like sonic or something or something to do with pirates or something. Maybe I'm thinking of zero the kamikaze squirrel, but it was so long ago, I can't remember.

So I was just reading the "colonizing a planet" thread and someone mentioned Deadlock and something in my brain clicked and I remembered a demo that came with either Deadlock 1 or 2 of a first person shooter with three different playable characters, each with their own weapons. I remember the playable character in the demo had a pickup that were little metallic sphere's that would shoot stuff, kind of like the option in Gradius III. I think they were called Lil' Buddies.

I thought of it on my way home from work last night.

I used to play this one game for the PC in the early 2000s. You were in a turret on most levels and you had to shoot down alien space ships. I also specifically remember one mission where you were in a tank on a snow level. Ive been trying to think of it for days and if anyone can help thatd be awesome

A C64 era (maybe 286) unrealistic flight game that would have you control jetplanes from sideview in 2D. Arrow upwards to accelerate, downwards to slow down, left and right to control altitude etc. You had bombs and guns. One mission (or level or whatever) had to start from a carrier.

90s CD rom game. Multiplayer. 1v1. You sent windup toys to attack your enemy. If the toy runs out of clockwork power, it becomes deactivated and acts as a destructible obstacle. Some strategy involved in picking which toys to send and how long you wind them up for.
