no it isn't, you are both wrong and can't read

SMF allows you to be notified of replies to posts, newly posted topics, and forum announcements. You can change those settings here, or oversee the topics and boards you are currently receiving notifications for.
Receive forum announcements and important notifications by email.
Receive reply notification only for the first unread reply.
Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic.
When sending notification of a reply to a topic, send the post in the email (but please don't reply to these emails.)

you can have it on even without email notification. the option is for both notifications *and* email, it works for both. simply select the forum topic, click unsubscribe, and you will no longer be notified of it in that system
we're not both wrong as I went there and I have only 2 threads in that list to which I subscribed myself, tho I have posted in far more threads than those 2

That's why you never post in a thread that has "mai" in the title.

Sad

this is how a man does it:
-click on "show new threads since last visit"
-there is a list of threads that can be several pages long
-open each page of this list in its own tab
-middle-click on "mark all messages read", so it will open in a new tab and leave the current tabs untouched
-now go through each tab (pages of threads) and open the threads you're interested in in new tabs (middle-click),when the page is done, close its tab
-when you've finished your reading history is up to date!
