Hi there! I am working on this game called Pilota. It's a top-down 2D flying game which has a semi-realistic flight model, a lot of aircraft and various missions.

The main idea was to create a game which resembles a hardcore flight sim (taking off, landing, instrument flight) but which is simpler, easier and less frustrating for the casual player - hence the 2D. I also wanted to add many different types of aircraft that are easy to pick and try, and many missions that are not available in other games.

This is a gameplay video:

Features:
-30 aircraft (seaplanes, helicopters, jets, biplanes, gliders, vtol planes)
-A lot of missions (crop dusting, water bombing, carrier operations, air races, cargo transport, search and rescue, medevac, airdrop and more)
-Anaglyph 3D mode for the missing 3rd dimension:)
-A pixel art world: five big islands, airports, oil rigs.
-Instrument flight and radio navigation
-Flying in bad weather and at night

Not yet added:
-air traffic control
-military missions (dogfight, intercept, ground attack)

Screenshots:

My site:

If you have any ideas about the game, features you think would be fun to add, please let me know! Thank you:)

Ι really like how this looks!

Is altitude control manual or something you'd only use to land/takeoff?

It seems like it could be hard to use in 2D if you need it as much as in a 3D sim.

Man, this is looking sick, you have any multiplayer? Where did you get your graphics? They're delicious. Keep us updated!

This is wicked. First time I've seen 3d effect used where it feels like its valid not forced. This would be wicked on a 3DS. Following.

Man, this looks damn good! Graphics reminds me of old sim serires (SimCity, Sim Farm...) and yeah, that's something I would give it a try for sure.

Keep us updated!

Nice! I definitely like the idea behind this.  I was going to ask if there would be dogfight missions, but the video showed you shooting a gun so I think that answers my question Smiley

I sit firmly in the middle of your intended audience. I'm looking forward to playing this.

Thank you all for the replies!

Is altitude control manual or something you'd only use to land/takeoff?
It seems like it could be hard to use in 2D if you need it as much as in a 3D sim.
It is manual, but simplified. If you release the altitude conrols the plane automatically returns to level flight - its easier that way. If you choose the easier flight model, your plane keeps the altitude until you change it yourself, while in the advanced mode the plane drops altitude in turns and loses/gains speed in climbs/descents. In both modes, flying too slow results in stall spins.

you have any multiplayer? Where did you get your graphics?
It wasn't planned but I am going to consider it.
I have a one-man team, I drew everything:)

I was going to ask if there would be dogfight missions, but the video showed you shooting a gun so I think that answers my question Smiley
Yeah, that's what I'm working on right now!

I took two screenshots to show you the new game modes I have added:

Dogfight (against an AI, here we both fly WW2 style vintage fighters, but modern jets can be flown too)

Air refueling (not an easy task, just like in real life. I fly the jet here and maybe I let the player fly the tanker too)

I've tried to make a top down 2d flying game a long time ago and failed so I'm a fan of the concept. Please add WWI planes as well Smiley

I am getting really close to add all the game modes I planned. This one is parachuting, you'll have to land on target as precisely as you can:
The parachute opens automatically if you don't do it manually.

With this parachute and a couple of WWI and WWII style fighter planes I made recently, the total number of playable vehicles is 40:)

The planes are fictional but based on and resemble some iconic real aircraft, even though the sprite size doesn't allow too many details. The spectrum is wide, the only type missing is the zeppelin/balloon (it had a really boring gameplay).

What I'll have to do next is to implement the storyline:)

This immediately reminded me of the old C64 game Blue Max except that game had an isometric view. But still brings back some good childhood memories! Will be watching...

I really like the concept, but I think it has unexpressed potential in terms of graphic design. I would love to see it with a more polished look Smiley

Keep up the good work!
