Flip side character! Light and dark within one single soul! Free your dark side to access the rooms where there are no lights and use your ligth side to walk where the sun shines!

Anyway...
I feel the water needs some highlights. Right now it doesn't feel like water because it is not reflecting light.
Also, the foam/steam should be over the blocks but I'm pretty sure that you alread know that, taking that this is still a WIP.

I think it needs to shimmer like water.  Theres no reflection of light bouncing off of it or anything, so it gives it a pretty dull and murky look.  But maybe you were getting to that, I dont know.

Adding foam around the base and the tops of the waterfall would look nice too, it looks like you already started to add something like that but I think it would look nice if you saw it being carried away by the water.  Also you could throw in some little details like rocks sticking out from behind the falls and splitting the flow of the water having it reform a few pixels down.  Y'know? ;P

I guess what I imagine for this style would be an almost completely transparent looking water, with a lot of reflections running across it.  This would probably make it like 20 times harder to make but I think it would look nice. =P

but i like the opaque water.
lets me hide stuff behind it.
little rocks sticking out would be a nice touch.

I'm eager to see a full level (if any). I have the feeling that you are showing us simply tidbits and nothing close to complete... Like a preview of a preview Wink

im not doing any of the code.
i dont know anything about code.
but we passed a pretty big milestone last night.
the game is playable in prototype form.
now we itterate.

and yes guert, i am only being a cocktease here.
im really just showing off the aesthetic.
and very little else.

yeah.
the plan is to have something shinny and playable for IGF.
a small fraction of the game, but fully realised and polished.
an FPP. or vertical slice. whatever.

we dont exactly have a schedule.
we just work as hard as we can on whatever is most important at the momment.

thing is, i seriously have no idea if we'll make it or not.
none at all.

he's old and he's seen a lot, lost an eye in the war and knows how to pick stuff up.

and now this rich tradition of picking stuff up is now orally transmitted to you, the player.

The water is looking nice.  One thing that still bothers me a little bit.. you have a little gradient on top of the falls there, like almost like you're increasing the saturation as it heads up to the top.  It kinda sticks out in a weird way to me. :I

Also, I think there needs to be a tiny bit of foam around where the water is being split by the little stone.

I assume the water will be animated in some way.  Will it just continuously scroll downward or something like that?
