hehe, nice work.

i need to get try my hand at this animation thing.
i know i sucked at 3d animation when i had to do that in school (but i somehow won a grant for my little cutscene anyway), but i have this pixen thing installed and...i mean...how hard can it be? maybe it can be very hard. i have no idea.

if it turns out i suck at this too, ill need an animator. thats for sure.

what program do you use for this?
i didnt see him as that atheltic a runner but still, awesome job.

I took your PNG, create an 20X20 image of your character, created the animation, blew up the frames and created a GIF with image ready. All in all, I believe I worked about 1h30 on it.

To me the most important part of a character is it's walk and run. You can have a nice design but it's is run/walk that tells you who the character is.

I saw him as a hero. Although cute and loveable, his mind his focused on his goal, hence no movement of the head. Since he is focused on his goal, he goes faster toward it since you tend to move faster when you know where you are going. He is proud and confident meaning a strong and powerful run, steady and sturdy, ready for anything and allowing him to go through anything.

GP Lackey has him runnign around with a more care-free attitude. His head moving meaning that he is curious and wants to watch everything around him. His hoping makes him look happy, almost skipping through danger without any worries.

All in all, you'll need to really line out how you want your character before you start doing your animation.

Anyway, if you ever need the source files, don't be shy.

I like the more whimsical running poses, but I wonder if it isn't too much motion to pack into one sprite. It does kind of ruin the illusion a bit when you see high-contrast pixels moving so much in such a low-rez sprite.

Good job Xion! It's got a nice vibe to it. Smiley I'd make his head move a bit less so we always see both eyes all the time. Besides that, everything's cool! Smiley I like how it's halway between my "serious" run and GP lackey's "cute" approach. Good job guys!  Smiley

Wow this project looks awesome! and I think Xions run cycle is pretty much perfectly what I imagined it should be when I first saw this character. Somebody (derek) needs to get this organized like Baldings Quest eh?
BTW I'm an animator and I'd love to contribute but I've never worked with pixel art before...

woah woah woah...no one is organizing anything.
besides, derek is busy enough with his own game, im sure.
no offense, but all i might need at some point is an sprite animator.

but to all the inputers, thanks for the input.
there's something i love about all those sprites.
especially the bouncing hat!
but following what guert said, i think the character is a curious one.
the game will be in part about exploration. he would be looking around.
also, it just makes him all that much cuter.

ok, so ive been trying to animate some stuff myself...
turns out i cant. or atleast, i wont have time to do a decent enough jib withong the deadline (62 days!).

so i am asking for your help.
i need an animator.
someone to do mostly character animation.
run, jump, grab ledge, pick-up somethig.
stuff like that.

i might also need a hand with stuff like water flowing, explosions, smoke, etc etc.

if any of you are interested, just point me to some of your stuff and we can talk.

Hmmm... Quite frankly I'm quite busy as it is so I'm afraid I can't help you much.

Perhaps... Perhaps... you could post a list of all you need. Could give a good idea of how much work is involved in these 62 days... If you're in deep sh.. maybe I could give you a hand if you want some of my help.

riduculously minor update:

because i am sick and tired of refering to my character as fez-dude or whatever, i have now given him a name. and that name is Gomez. because it rhymes with his hat.
so there you go. Gomez.
