WHERE ARE YOUR SPIKES? Me and my brother's levels had spikes freaking everywhere. Because spikes were cool, and difficult.

I remember drawing several Sonic inspired games, wich ofcourse included lots of spikes (like the real games). Usually they could be played with a dice, however there where two big problems with this. First of all, playing with a dice makes the "gameplay" awfully slow wich takes away the point with Sonic-games in general. Secondly there where usually some points at wich you had to through for exampel a five just to get past. If you failed with this you hade to start from the begining again.

I also recall writing a Sonic & Knuckles inspired story in school when I was 10 I think. It revolved around a normal kid who found chaos emeralds and turnd into a Sonic-like character, wich was somewhat a dream of mine at the time. As you can believe, the story was truly amazing...

Sadly I think all this is lost since long.

Ah, now I can finally tell my parents that I wasn't the only kid drawing games out on paper.  I wish I had some of my old stuff, but it's long gone, buried somewhere in a box underneath a box underneath more boxes in my garage.  Someday, in the post apocalyptic future, my work will be found and thought to be this society's religious beliefs.

:D :D :D

I think that's what's so crazy about our modern society.  Imagine when our rubbish will be discovered; what will they (they being either far-future humans, or aliens) think?

It'll be like "By the Waters of Babylon."
They'll learn from our mistakes and never reinvent videogames.
They fuck people up, man.

There's a book called Motel of the Mysteries that wonders that very thing.  Future archaeologists uncover a motel room with the "do not disturb" sign on the door and assume it's a burial chamber.

It's more about poking fun at archaeology and such.  It's kind of dated, but I remember thinking it was still amusing.

The beauty of manhole covers--what of that?
Like medals struck by a great savage khan,
Like Mayan calendar stones, unliftable, indecipherable,
Not like the old electrum, chased and scored,
Mottoed and sculptured to a turn,
But notched and whelked and pocked and smashed
With the great company names
(Gentle Bethlehem, smiling United States).
This rustproof artifact of my street,
Long after roads are melted away will lie
Sidewise in the grave of the iron-old world,
Bitten at the edges,
Strong with its cryptic American,
Its dated beauty.

Hmm, do you mean this one?

More or less. There was a myth were that finishing move had an alternate version where orchid flashed towards the players rather than the opponent. KI had a lot of great finishing moves.

I'll never figure out why Jago drops a car on the opponent.

That's the one problem with fighting games. You can play the game for years and then get beat by some button mashing little kid punk who never played the game before.

Or a wife who randomly slams the buttons until she figures out a special I can't defend against, then spams it. Smiley

I recall making a Super Mario World cast-off. On one level you had to ride a giant flying koopa. But, of course, you couldn't jump while riding him because he'd die when you landed.

Brilliant. If he were traveling straight up so you had to dodge left and right w/o jumping, it'd work!

I tried taking pictures of mine with a digital camera but the pictures turned out crap.  I'll get back to you when I find a scanner.

In the meantime, I think terrible images are better than nothing. Depends how long it takes you to find a scanner.

When I get my computer working again, I'll upload something. I have some hundreds of paper games I drew when I was little.

But hey, what would you guys say if we made a compo or something like that out of these ideas? "Childhood game remakes"?
