 Gentleman

ITT we post things and mash them together to make "games"(more aptly, gamettes or gizmos), for the hell of it. Just brief little nuggets of entertainment.

It's a no pressure, chilled out environment for just experimenting and finding out how well you work with complete strangers. Don't start huge projects, just small ones, and drop them as soon as you lose interest! We're all about fun here.

So spriters, post those sprite sheets, background, and animations,
Composers, go compose some music, and whip up some sound effects,
Coders, wrap it all up in a neat bundle and share! Use recycled code, even, we don't care!

Here are some starter sprites, sprite sheets and graphics. They have never been used in any kind of game before. Totally fresh.

Great idea Camdag!

When I get home I'll see if I can share up some old prototype code.

I really like the green guy in the middle above the line separating top and bottom.

Edit: Oh, I like the bird on the bottom of the black space better  Smiley

Also, funny monkey.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, is sound_tree_fall.play() called?

He was going to be the protagonist for a side scrolling space shooter that featured a cover system and wall-hugging similar to that of Blackthorne. Also, it would be a strong platformer. But now it can be whatever anybody wants!

Great idea Camdag!

That's the spirit! I'm accepting requests if you're looking for a sprite in particular. Maybe I can whip something up.

Do you have any suggestions for someone who has little talent but wants to help?

Love the idea behind this thread; I'll try and contribute something at some point (I'll make sure it's unique...somehow).

Sure! Practice and get talented! Or you can dink around with this neato sound effect generator and share your results. Maybe try making some tunes with pxtone! They are both accessible programs.

Haha, "no commitment," just how Panda likes it!  Well, hello there!

(Not me though, I'm all for commitment, unlike that pervy Panda.  Roll Eyes)

Man, it's kinda lame that the images are down. Nobody can see the eye candy! I think that is a much needed part of a thread like this.

Were they down before, because if it's the one's you linked to, then I did see them, and there were some nice things there.

First game prototype comin' up!

A Journey To Less

Download

Monkey (Great Sage Equal of Heaven) continues his journey west, seeking an audience with Buddha. Buddha appears atop a cloud, and Monkey leaps to greet him. As Monkey draws near Buddha vanishes, appearing on a different cloud. What Monkey doesn't see is the cloud that vanishes also.

This was written between 1am and 3am one night, after I was struck by inspiration for a "Minimalism" themed compo. Sadly I had only a few hours left 'till the deadline, so I gave up and went back to bed.

Anyway yeah, it's only ~200 lines of code so it should be easy to follow. All written in python using my PyCap stuff. Just edit game.py to change stuff.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Buddha is the golden square. You might need to look closely to tell him apart from the clouds. Sorry about that.

DOUBLE EDIT: Added modules required to make game actually run. Should work now.

Ok, this concept is looking frightfully like Klik N Play right now. We need cheesier pictures.
