Definitely looks like a fun experience! What platforms are you planning on releasing for? Could see myself playing this on the Ouya in the living room.

Thanks a bunch guys! What platforms are you planning on releasing for? Could see myself playing this on the Ouya in the living room. Right now I'm focusing purely on PC and seeing how that goes. After initial release, if it makes sense, I would love getting it on as many platforms as I can. It's all in Actionscript, so Ouya would be a possibility.

Looks really awesome, can't wait to see more! Btw. is the possessing of people time-limited? And are there people that have access to different parts of the ship (e.g. as the captain, you can go into his cabin without raising suspicion).
@C.A. Sinner Never would've thought to see someone with a Florian Silbereisen avatar in an international forum... or anywhere else. :D

I really like this concept for a game - what a cool format for a mystery.
I'm imagining an awesome moment when you discover that the person who murdered you was the very same person you have been possessing for a lot of the game and using to unravel the mystery - what a weird disconnect to realize you have been "playing as" the villain for much of the game without knowing it!

Yeah, really cool idea. For some reason it reminds me of the old Twylight Zone series. I hope you are able to construct a nice and twisty story. All the best!

Yeah, if I had to describe the game using other titles, I think this might be it! Btw. is the possessing of people time-limited? And are there people that have access to different parts of the ship (e.g. as the captain, you can go into his cabin without raising suspicion). Possession isn't time-limited, no. Different people do have access to different parts of the ship, though most areas are generally unlocked. There are some rooms, however, that are inaccessible until later parts of the game when you can possess the right person. Different characters have different interactions with some objects, as well -- for instance, to log into one character's computer, you may have to actually possess him/her first. I'm imagining an awesome moment when you discover that the person who murdered you was the very same person you have been possessing for a lot of the game and using to unravel the mystery - what a weird disconnect to realize you have been "playing as" the villain for much of the game without knowing it! I hope you are able to construct a nice and twisty story. There are definitely some twists that I hope leave a lasting impression on the player. And again, thanks for the replies and positive feedback everyone!

Man, this looks fantastic. Very cool narrative mechanic and the pixel art is super solid and crisp! Can't wait to see more. Thanks, I appreciate it! I've still got a lot to learn though! I've hit a pretty big milestone in terms of developing the game's main content, so as a reward and in preparation of submitting the game to competitions I'm taking a break to polish the game's visuals in areas that have been neglected. Which means the stuff I'll be working will be stuff that I can actually talk about! And stuff that can be seen! Yesterday I created extra backgrounds for the area outside the boat. Up to this point I only had a sunset backdrop, which I was using for every point in the game, even when it was supposed to be morning or night time. I also polished the sunset one a bit more from its previous version. Now there's a daytime and nighttime one as well, which can be seen on the top and bottom. It's still a bit rough, but they're pretty close to finalized. The water, however, is a task for another day.

Oooh! Following this. I really love the Earthbound-like style. You're probably getting tired of hearing that though!

Woooooaaaaaah I'm back! I've been developing in silence for a while, and also took an unexpected break from development. But serious development is back on and the game is really shaping up. As it is, the story is near complete and the game can be played from beginning to end (or at least, one of the endings). Let's start with this: the game has a new trailer and is up on Greenlight! If you like the game and think it should be on Steam, I'd super appreciate it if you took a second out of your busy day to click the button with "yes" on it. Trailer: Greenlight: http://www.steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=323454547
Alright, so what's new with the game? Let's catch up! You now have the ability to read peoples' minds. Each of them has a visual representation for their psyche which gives you an idea of what mental state they're in. There's 9 in total, but here are a couple:
What else...as you learn more about who you were when you were alive, you piece together your identity. After enough of that, your ghastly form begins to look more like your former self. And with each upgrade, people in the physical world notice you a bit more.
Some objects used in the later parts of the game...nothing foreboding here, no sir!
And lastly, let's end on a little exchange with Ferdinand. Thanks for reading! Check back in another 4 months and maybe, just maybe, I'll have another update ready!

Thanks! Funnily enough I almost cut them out of the game. Just didn't think they fit with everything else goin' on in the game. But they got good responses, so they are in!

I would cut the psyche or rethink them. Could be much more effective with something simple and clever rather than busy and random. Visually I don't think it looks up to par with the rest of the game which is looking fantastic!

I don't think I want to go so far as cut them, but I could revisit some of the designs. I can try to slow them down, simplify and/or make them fit better with the look of the rest of the game.

Why Do English People Write Titles Like This It Looks Dum
It Seems To Be A Cool Game Anyhow. The Graphics Are Very Nice! Made Me Instantly Think Of SS Anne In Pokémon Of Course.

Har. I guess the standard capitalization should be "Why Am I Dead at Sea", but that's only one word that's unnecessarily capitalized. Though now I'm not sure which I prefer. It honestly never occurred to me in the million times I typed it out. I'm also American, I suppose I just have weird taste in capitalization. I looked up every boat I could find in older games for ideas/reference, so the SS Anne comparison is pretty apt. That Pixel work is beautiful, game looks great too. Will be voting for this on greenlight definetley. a +1 from me This is honestly some of the most refreshing pixel art I have seen in a long time. Much appreciated! Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you like it.
