This may or may not be true. Report your findings! But for now, a gif:

So instead of an auto-scrolling shooter, it's an auto-escalating shooter? I like the concept, but it looks like it would be very difficult to avoid projectiles with the tiny amount of room the escalator takes up on the screen right now.

Remember the levels in Super Mario where the screen is constantly chasing you? It feels like that but more hectic.
As for projectile enemies, the game is specifically designed to have you constantly trying to shoot the enemies but also be able to manage the escalator. It splits up your concentration in an interesting way- that being said projectile enemies probably wouldn't work, unless you could shoot the projectiles...

TBH I don't think just moving back and forth and shooting down enemies is going to be enough to keep the game interesting.

Conceptually interesting. I'd say it is a mix between a rail shooter and a runner.
Maybe the escalator part can be improved by adding variations on the types of obstacles/challenges the escalator provides.

Inconvinently placed suitcases on the escalator you have to jump over?

So I think about this like Geometry Wars or a modern Space Invaders. The focus will not be on the escalator per say. We're considering having variants on the escalators, possibly layers of multiple escalators, but it's mainly a vehicle to keep the pressure on. Don't want to add jumping or obstacles. As I said, the split view of managing shooting enemies and keeping yourself in your peripheral vision is vital.
Instead, there's a couple of things that will keep this interesting -Enemy attack patterns (ie the bats only attack when you're at 0 ammo) X multiple enemy types -Therefore, ammo & reload management/timing -Different guns for different enemy types/power-ups
Hope you guys gave the demo a whirl. More to come soon

i can confirm that there are escalators in virtua cop 2, though neither the player nor the enemies use them. it is highly likely that there are escalators in the die hard 2 segment of die hard trilogy, detectives are on the case.

@Gentleman-
Agreed. It's just a new toy I'm playing with.
@Everyoneelse
Thanks. I'm trying to figure out what to do with this next. I can see it going all the way to a Nuclear Throne route with multiple characters, a shop/upgrades between waves, multiple enemies, and different color schemes. We have more enemies animated. But to be honest I'm not sure if the concept has the legs to go much farther than it has- thoughts?
