I know this sounds like a crazy idea but what if these devs made a space sim engine and then for the actual game they thought they needed a way to pace the exploration and then they had no clue at all how game design works and just took "player psychology" advice from people making horrible facebook or mobile clicker games for housewives
More likely the original plan was a pure exploration game but Sony pushed them to include more "gamey" mechanics. It feels like a cool procgen exploration thing with boring systems tacked on. But I'm just repeating myself here. |

It doesn't matter people would still complain it's not constant engagement gameplay and what they don't like is bad. Not every game is mario. Nor they should.

Mario is bad, it's disney + kindergarten style of game design, "have a tour please", that's why mario 64 is the best mario, it's more like sonic, ie the skate park style of game design where you don't need pesky suggestion about what to do, but actually engage with the level design instead of having specific attraction designed for you in separated succession. It's even more obvious now sonic mania is out, and why zelda breath of the wild is best zelda, going back to albw was painful.

So what's the general consensus on this now?
Is it worth getting since the Atlas Rises update?
I get huge opinion differences with everyone I ask, but a lot of the negativity I encounter is just regurgitated from the launch...
