And I agree that "well I worked hard on it" doesn't equate into something being more valuable. It might take a team hundreds and thousands of dollars and years to make a game but that doesn't mean anything to the end user. That's how trade works; people are gonna value something based on what they're getting, not on what you're giving up.

Brigador looks super good.  I want to play it.  But I can't drop $20 bux on every game I think is good. It's why I haven't gotten Darkest Dungeon or Furi or Enter the Gungeon or Stardew Valley or Offworld Trading Company or Stellaris or House of the Dying Sun.

If all of those games were $5 dollars, I'd buy them all.  Why?  Because that goes from a purchase I have to budget around and negotiate with myself for, to a slam dunk impulse.

I see this with a lot of writers and their work being published onto Kindle. It's a tough sell to get your work sold at ten or even five or even 3 dollars- and you could argue that Your Novel is Worth That.  People will line up to buy it for a dollar or two though.

to be honest, i don't get the "it's expensive so it has to be good" line of thinking, esp when it comes to media products. on the contrary, i'm happy when i can get something really good for cheap or even free. the majority of hyped AAA videogames turn out to be stale garbage.

It's not that they are good, it's that there's the expectation that they are good

yes but a digital copy of a videogame is different from champagne. of course, you're always paying for a "brand" in additional to everything, there's very little cost or effort involved in making and distributing digital copies which abstracts the price even further. the reason why AAA games are 60 dollas is not because they couldn't make a profit if they were cheaper (even much cheaper), it's a bunch of factors, including cultural.

i mean i guess in the end "AAA" isnt really a hallmark of quality for me. the times when the biggest games were also the best are long gone.

It has 18 quintillion planets but I got bored after four or five of them. Repetitive locales, no compelling core mechanics, trade system is incoherent. It's also needlessly hard to navigate back to places you've already been, so even if you discover something cool you're going to have a hard time getting back to it later. So what's the point? To upload it to PSN?

You don't put 400h in a game to appear having fun when new complete game are appearing. The fringe who like it really like it.

never underestimate the amount of bullshit gamers are willing to subject themselves to over multiple 100s of hours

i wasnt talking about nms players there lol, i was speaking more generally

i meant the kind of people who write scathing negative steam reviews of games they have 1000+ hours of playtime in, or people who buy and finish games they don't even like for achievements. i.e. spending 400hrs on a game is not necessarily proof that someone is having fun bc theres a tendency in some parts of "gamer culture" to treat games as a job.

I sincerely think that NMS's chief flaws have nothing to do with the scope or lack of "tangible content" or whatever, it's that the entire game is sterile and un-reactive.

There's no positive feedback for blasting an alien or robot or whatever, any time you interact with a building it pulls control away from you and does a little not-a-loading-screen-we-promise thing.

It's disconcerting on a biological level, you never enter a flow state like in Mario where you can run and jump and stomp a goomba (I'm part Italian, I can say that)
