I think that the whalemon should be side on like the birdmon, otherwise whalemon look like he's flying.

This looks really cute. About the tileset, I love the little flowers and the grass, but maybe use something other than pure black for such large expanses. Some sort of textured rock or dirt might make it a bit less distracting.

The under-water part of the tiles look pretty nice, a big improvement, but the green of the grass is a bit too bright and stands out a bit too much. Its hard to see the flowers and grass against the blue background because has a similar contrast. The overworld is looking pretty good but I think the water needs a texture, it looks like there is a hole through the world. I like the grass tiles but I think there should be consistency in the colours from the battle and the overworld. Its looking much better though, good job!

yeah, all good points, I've changed the water surface to be similar value range to the grass texture, I'll have to change the background blue.

I'm working on the water( as seen below ) and they'll be different battle-tilesets for different map areas, it'll be consistent.

(obviously most of the colors fuckd up by the stupid gifs)
(bottom right colors are accurate)

first of all took me quite sometime to find something to even critique but on the trees in your map I think the fact they're so uniformly put out, the base is a lil thick, and the shadow is bland.  Maybe messing with the shape of the shadow would detract from your project, but I think moving around the trees some would make that map look better.  Ps. I love your toucan
