Yo omgnoseat, this looks like it would be fun! Yeah, it's similar to other games, but yours has potential to be its own thing n im sure im not the only one who can see tht. I'm making a similar kinda game, but mine is more akin to pong than to a platformer. And yeah, I know that it's not super original, but that's not why we make games. We make em because we enjoy making em and enjoy seeing people enjoy em, right? Haha and at least you have people commenting on yours. I don't even know if anyone here has played my game yet. Though I am a designer, I know nothing about pixel art so I can't help you there, but I'll be sure to play whatever builds you post in the future man Smiley

Update: Just read all of your first post. Geez I hope you get better, and if not, I hope you at least get to enjoy every moment of what you do, even if it's painful to enjoy it. There's always an up side.

How can you beat someone smashing the ball upward while on a one block platform and then jumping and smashing it again? I don't think you can, because other player's jump isn't high enough unless he also jumps from the platform.
It looks like there are some cases when the opponent just wouldn't have the time/reach to react to the ball. I guess that's just how it should be.
In Rayman Legends Football mini game, the arena was flat and even there if you hit the ball highly up and then hit her again, the opponent had to do a nice timed jump to reach the ball that high just in time and slam it back.

Looks good otherwise.  Smiley

yeah we're still tweaking stuff like player movement speed and timing, but omgnoseat deliberately avoided a lot of choices made in the rayman soccer game because the flat plane and spammy actions made the game ridiculously boring.

I'm excited to see where this goes, hopefully you'll keep it pretty simple and not over-complicate it. I'd hate for something like this to deal with feature creep when the idea is simple enough, it's looking great. Keep the updates coming.

Sorry for the radio silence everyone. We've all been kind of busy, and hopefully the project will be back on track soon. I'm preparing a rewrite of smashball on the programming side of things.

All the stages in the gifs are just experiments, we still need to play around and see what makes for a good arena.

I just saw a gif of your game, looks fun whilst still deliciously simple, good job :D
Yeah I've been doing a bunch of other small projects, all with fun in mind. When I stop enjoying development I move on to a new project. Enjoying my ability to make games :D
Smashball is something I want to finish whatever it takes though.

Combination of school, work, health, and pure unadulterated unreliability on my part prevented this from pushing forward. After the semester is over, I'm going to get back in contact with the guys to see if we can just make the game.
