Bah, as soon as I saw the title of this thread I was all keen to post hedgehog in the fog. Should have known you'd already have it there. Some of Norstein's other pieces are brilliant too: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jZZo0iPBmQA and http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ0aEYCX_oc (in 2 parts) I saw these one time in a film festival, a collection of several of his films, it was great.

Thank you for posting. I just watched the first two shorts. The one based on the Ray Bradbury story was quite eerie. I really like the atmosphere in the beginning especially. 'Hedgehog in the Fog' was also amazing... I'm going to have to make all my friends watch it now Thanks again! I'll definitely be watching more of these soon.

I grew up on Russian animation! That's stuff's stir crazy! Nu Pogodi, which is basically the Russian equivalent of the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner cartoons. An amazing music video about the greatest hero ever, Vasya. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NADNRflBl3wThe Blue Puppy, which is just awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KouvdnY01bQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpTvkayg8IYThese are just the first links I could find. It's an excellent Russian stop motion film about Cheburashka, a giant eared monstrosity, and Gena the crocodile, his caretaker type fellow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuBzKV6XgvA&feature=relatedThe Russian Winnie the Pooh cartoons were far superior to the new ones since always. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjQmTe8R5ms&feature=relatedAnimation based on Astrid Lindgren's Karlsson stories, about a chubby little man with a helicopter backpack who bothers small children. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI8lw63aLeEMedvezhut, Medved being bear, is a trippy little cartoon about a bear having a series of bizarre dreams.

The only one of these I had seen before was Cheburashka. I had a Cheburashka colouring book at my Grandmamas, I have no idea why seeing how her very French family has lived on this continent for over 400 years.

Actuallly... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CheburashkaCheburashka was apparently translated to other languages. There's even a Japanese version of the Russian films.

I've been coming back to this thread periodically- I'm really enjoying it. Tonight I watched "The Heron and the Crane", (the second link in Brog's first post). I thought it both well done and very funny. I love the part in the fog with the umbrella. The characters' outlines were slightly soft from the fog. I wonder how that scene was made? I don't know how I'll ever catch up with all these shorts, though. They're being posted faster than I can watch them .

Soviet animations are win. I've watched There Will Come Soft Rains and The Hedgehog in the Fog, and the soviet Winnie the Pooh sometime ago, with no subtitles. I've to watch more later.

Pah. You call those Russian animations? I mean... don't get me wrong, they're pretty and all. True masterworks of the animator's craft. It's just that they lack a certain ... something. A vibrancy. A proud declaration of everything that it means to be Russian. They're missing something. Something... like....
... Gorbachev....
Here. If you want something that will REALLY make you communist, have a look at this fine piece of film making, including both animation and live action with equal ease. This WILL make you turn communist by looking at it:
You'll also probably learn some fun facts about Soviet history. But more importantly, you'll learn some fun facts... about yourself.

Yeah, actually it is.
It's still pretty damn awesome. Gorbachev the Barbarian kills Zombie Stalin with laser-eyes.
Thanks for posting all of this! I've had zero prior exposure to Soviet animation.
