Hello! Ive been lurking around these forums for a little while now and Ive been a bit hesitant to put anything up here! mainly because i dont think anythings ready to show but hey its a devlog! stuff isn't meant to be finished and it will be a good way to see progress for myself and hopefully to keep motivated  Evil



What is Bound Souls (Working title)

-Bound souls is a simple turn based RPG made with RPG Maker VX ace. The game will feature exploration, turn based combat, story and upgrades.
I say the game is 'simple' mainly because this is my first game in development...i keep saying to myself any RPG is still really not that simple but to most games i guess it will be. I'm trying to keep it at a manageable state so fingers crossed i can keep it that way!

The game is about two characters that both need each other (At the moment i simply call them 'Boy' and 'Girl' for the time being)they venture out to explore dungeons and dangerous forgotten environments together.  



-I am working on this project in my spare time for fun and experience and mainly i just really want to make my own game and hopefully one day ill release it for free....somewhere.

I have Licecap but they come out really grainy and low quality.

I also dig the art style.
Of GIF software, you can use GifCam. Graininess can still be a thing (you know, GIFs are limited to 256 colors per frame), but there's a bunch of settings you can tweak. I mostly save with "nearest" or "256 colors" setting, which seem to suit my games more or less perfectly.

Cheers, just tested it out and its nice and easy to use which is cool :D
My gifs just seem super grainy though..a bit annoying as im seeing some super sharp gifs around here! must be something im doing wrong....

What I do for my gifs is:

1. Record with fraps
2. Crop and save as lossless AVI with VirtualDub
3. Extract frames as PNGs with `ffmpeg`
4. Convert frames into gif with ImageMagicks's `convert`

Let me know if you need more detail or exact commands.

Thanks dude it sounds like a good idea but im looking for something i can do quickly really with little effort so i can put more time into making the game  Smiley

Still playing around with Gifcam.

-This is saved with 256 colours (Looks really bad)

-This is saved with Grayscale (This actually looks the best so far although i want colour!  Cry )

-This is saved with quantize (Goes green and horrible although you can see its actually ok underneath the green)

What do you mean with 'turn-based'? I assume that the combat is turn-based, but is moving around also turn-based?

You could use LICEcap to make .gifs. It's really simply to use and I've found it perfect for capturing short loops of things. You can set the screen area to capture and the FPS to capture at (Higher FPS = more smooth but larger file), I've never had an issue with colour/grainyness either.

I see this game and I know it doesn't matter what the gameplay is like because just wandering around the world will be fun enough. Amazing art. Gives me a bit of a Fez vibe with the colours outside. Great work.

p.s. your signature banner is rather large and intrusive and doesn't even do justice to the awesome art that it links to showing just the title. I'd convert that shot you have of the world into it somehow.
