For the last few months, I've been working on my first game, which I plan on releasing as freeware. I started a personal website and found some free hosting so I could distribute the game when it's finished. The problem is, I don't really know how I would go about spreading the word about my game once it's done.

Since this is a freeware project, I don't plan on spending any money on advertising. I just want to know how I can let people know that my game exists, and maybe even get a few people playing it. It's probably not a major concern right now, since I still have a ways to go before the game is finished, but I still hope to have some kind of idea of how I'm going to do it.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated  Smiley

To talk about it in gaming-related forums usually works a advertisement.

Beyond that you can try to find relevent newsgroups, and post there. If it's good, you can ask some of the shareware/download sites if they are interested in spreading it.

See if you can get it reviewed on game websites. That's more effective than an ad, and it's free.

Cool, I'll look in to that, thanks.
