Origin
We have started to develop Save The Comet as a part of Global Game Jam 2012. The topic introduced was Ouroburos, so we do wanted our game to be endless, but we were in complete agreement that the game needed have a unique mechanic.

Note:Since this was a jam do not expect code quality.


Currently
RELEASED!

We have liked the idea enough to spend all of our free time developing it. Currently many of the main features are completed. We are working on improvements, polish and bug fixes.

Another endless game? Seriously?
Yes, and NO. Save The Comet has two very important differences from other endless runner games.
1- Save The Comet has a story. Like every story there is something to learn/reach at some point.
2- A game that you can not control your main character. In Save The Comet it is not possible to control your main character(Comet). You can only drag, destroy and scramble other objects like meteors, planets and asteroid fields to change Comet's course and save it. for example if you want to turn right, you should drag a planet towards the Comet and use planets gravity to change Comet's course.

Objects
1-Planets : Those are the main objects in game. They do contain StarDust(in game currency) and Score to be collected.
2-Meteors : Those are like homing missiles. They do move towards you and try to hit you. You can get rid of them by either hitting them with a planet or simply tapping them.
3-Asteroid Fields : If you enter one of those fields you will lose points and slow down. You can swipe your finger around them to clear them out.
4-Hyper-Nova : Even our developer cheats can not beat this monster.

Goal
Main purpose of the game is to get as many as score as you can get and complete the story if you can live long enough. You can collect score and stardust by "simply" moving around planets, destroying meteors or clearing out asteroid fields.

Possible but Less Likely: Windows, Mac, Linux

The Story

We have finally implemented one of the most important features of Save The Comet. The Story!

I can not give much detail about the Story since it is kind of a Easter Egg. Very hard to reach but satisfying at the end Smiley (At least we hope so Smiley

It has been a quite busy day. We have fixed a couple of issue and managed to improve the overall experience of the the story.

I am sorry that the development has been slowed down for the last couple of weeks due to busy nature of our secondary jobs.



We have blog post on Tumblr about the progress of the story too. I am planning reveal a bit more about the story if we can get a good response and support from the community.

I'm planning to share a few extra information here since TIGSource is a lot more sincere and actually a community!

Sorry for the long delay after the previous post.

We have been working quite hard on the game.

We have almost completed The End of the game. So from here on we have following things left to do;

- Polish, Polish, Polish!
- Catch a lot of bugs!
- Revamp tutorial system. We might ask your help about that if you would like to! Smiley
- Even more polish!
- Release the game!

Sounds like a very nice concept,love the look of the planets. Is there an accesible build for players to test and will there be black holes?

Well, unfortunately the beta was a couple of months ago. I am not sure but, we may be able to do another beta session just for TIG source if there will be enough people willing to test! But no promises Smiley

About the black holes; We really wanted to add black holes to the game, but unfortunately they won't be in the initial release. But we have Hyper-Nova's! They are not as cool as Black Holes but almost as good as them!

But you can submit your ideas, such as black holes etc to our BitBucket!

Hello Everyone!



Today we have pushed up a new update to our servers!

This update contains a couple of very important things.

1- We have finally signed our app with a keystore. It means we are officially ready to launch! Not technically tho Smiley
2- We have finally finished developing our Social GUI and system. G+, Facebook and Twitter are all working! We had this before it was running not so smooth...
3- Added a whole new Customization Package called The Alien Planets
4- A lot of optimizations around the GUI.

Yesterday we have made another Jam with my fellow designer and we have completed a couple of things.

First of all we believe that our tutorial is able teach the game! We have rewrote it from scratch for the 3rd time! Seems like 3 was the lucky number!

Also we have updated our Ouroboros effect with a very nice and shiny new visual.

Here are a couple of visuals from our new tutorial;

Beginning of tutorial which teaches you to drag and hold planet near the comet;


Circle turns green if you succeed!


Circle turns blue and tells you to throw to planet away!

Frustrated? No More!

Ok Everyone!

We knew that you have frustrated by a couple of things. This patch will aim to solve them as much as possible. (ETA Tomorrow)
So let us begin the countdown!

Frustration Number 3!

Door animations are too slow. Restarting takes too long!
- Door animation is now a lot more faster. Also you will be able to directly restart into the game in a future patch Wink



Frustration Number 2!
Game asks for rating all the time!
- This was a bug. And now you also have chance to hide this dialog for good.



…Aaaaaaand, Frustration Number 1!
Game asks  to login to google everytime i start it!
- We will only ask the first time you have opened the game. After that  you are completely free of Google if you want to Smiley

Headstart just got Better!
It has been a wonderfully tiring week for all our team. Except Oz, he was on vocation drinking margarita and dancing under sun shine!

Anyways, we have made some great changes around the galaxy.

First and biggest of them all is that we have upgraded the HeadStart.

Before

> You could use it to reach level 2 if you had 2500 Stardusts.

Now

> Headstart now has 3 different levels.

> To unlock a new level of headstart you should reach the corresponding level in the game. For example to unlock yellow Headstart which takes you to the Soul Nebula, you have to reach the Soul Nebula at least once.

> After unlocking more than a single level; which level you can use and how much you are are going to pay will be determined a very small mini-game.



Not interesting changes;

> We have killed a lot of bugs recently. Yes we are horrible people.

> Pickups now increase you combo.
