Hello and welcome to the devlog for Access!

Access is a competitive multiplayer block matching game. Currently targeting OSX and windows but with an eye on Linux and tablets later on.

Two player attempt to destroy the blocks on their grid by matching them with the same color "Deleter" blocks. By deleting these blocks the player can attack the opponent and drop more blocks on them. First to top out loses

There is also marathon mode. You against the world. Try to remove as many blocks as possible as you get attacked more and more. High score currently 147

Video of the game in action

Recently I've focusing on getting the gameplay feeling right so I figure now is a good time get as many people to play as possible. So here's the latest builds for OSX and windows

Download Here
Windows
OSX

Known issues:
The control select screen is a bit vague at the moment. Basically you push left for player 1 or right for player 2 on the controller/mouse/keyboard you want to use and then press accept. This really isn't clear ATM and is pretty high on the to fix list

Hi there
Game looks interesting but the links are malformed. Some missing and some extra characters.
What did you use to make the game?

Oh bugger you're right. Thanks for the heads up. The links should work now. And it's being made using Monogame

So fixed a couple of minor OSX issues. And the fairly major not being able to use the mouse at all one as well

Recently I've been messing around with adding SFX to the game. At the moment I'm using a sound pack from Affordable Audio 4 Everyone (http://www.affordableaudio4everyone.com). Which is a great starting point. Which is good because I don't know anything about SFX. I still haven't found the right sound for the block shatter which I think is the most important sound. Unfortunately I have no idea what a digital block shattering sounds like :-(

Well here is what it sounds like at the moment

Yeah, I checked it out and couldn't see a mouse pointer. But I could work out where the mouse was from the grey blocks in the background. Cool.
I had to install mono run-time to get it to run. Will you eventually have an installer to take care of all that?
I didn't really play the game because I am on my laptop with a crappy mousepad, but I will get to it.
Video is nice. Although the sound of blocks disappearing is like someone clearing their throat. I suggest a more mystical/magical sound.
Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. Good point about the mono runtime. Yeah I'll have to make an installer at some point. Glad you like the background. It's a cellular automata that reacts to your mouse. Throat clearing? Yeah I can hear that :-). It's a tricky one because a sound effect can sound great on it's own but because it's for each block and the pitch changes as you combo it can end up sounding all wrong. I'll have to look at tweaking the timing of the shatter and pitch changing as well. Lots of variables to tweak

I like the sounds you have chosen. The block shattering has a really nice deep bass that sounds cool on my studio monitors. It might be a hair too loud, but it depends on what music it will be over.

I downloaded but can't run the program on Windows. I just get "HackPuzzle has stopped working." I don't know what it means to "install Mono" although I have MonoGame.Framework.dll in the folder.

You can get the mono runtime from here http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page. Hopefully that should sort it out

Laura at Indie Haven was kind enough to let me host my devlogs up on her site. First one is up now and contains thoughts on demoing games at conventions, accessibility and tutorials. It also contains a picture of a cat

Works been a bit slow recently luckily I've got a couple of long weekends from work coming up soon to get more. Until then you can hear me talk about doing the little things at http://indiehaven.com/dev-blog-the-other-90-developer-barry-hemans/

The (WIP) website I mention there is at www.overgroundlab.com

Since that went up I've been doing a bit more graphics tweaking on the map. I think this is map mk3

I decided to remove the colors because I felt players were paying to much attention to what is supposed to be a bit of flair. Just need to update attacks to the new style
