Hi Guys, This is a game idea I have been tinkering with for a while. No production art yet but these Photoshop mock-up screenshots of the potential levels would become actual game art. Here is my initial 1 sheet: ------------------------ Umbilical
2d ‘infinite brawler’ that actually has a narrative and an ending.
You awake alone in the outpost after an unknown period of cryosleep. You know nothing of the world around you. Journey into the wasteland above, attached to the outpost by an umbilical cable. Battle the beasts, the ancients, the feral the ice dragons and collect samples and get pulled back to base before you perish.
Research the world and the technology/ specimens of your enemies to progress the game narrative: Build new suits, robots, vehicles and weapons, go further into the world. There are four separate levels which are all infinite: the wastelands, the metal tomb of the ancients, the dragon glaciers and the wilds. Progressing in one allows you to progress further in the others- through pickups, research, obtaining new abilities. Once the four levels are completed (and the key artefacts are researched) you open up the final level ‘the deeps’.
Back at the outpost between missions the game narrative is progressed is through researching key technologies. Expand your outpost, bring other colonists out of hibernation and use the outposts facilities to further your aims.
X com meets punch quest/fist of awesome + a dose of moon (film)
The Wastes The Frozen The Ancients The Wilds ---------------------- I am also making a grpahic novel set in the same universe. I keep a pretty updated stream on facebook of what I am up to: Thanks! Jake

Except the boring font over a even-more-boring greyed background.... Oh my gosh these artworks are just splendid! So much detailed, amazing skills here. I wouldn't believe you're already an established professional, any past games you've realized?
Super stuff anyway, keep it on!

Netsu: Thanks very much! Ephoete: glad you like the art. Yes I have done a decade in 'AAA' development. I make my living as a freelance concept artist now but I also like doing lots of projects. I just released 'Tanuki Forest' on iOS as a two man team: In terms of mainstream gaming I have worked on a bunch of stuff. Started way back when on Second Sight and Time Splitters at Free Radical Design. making AAA was fun back then :D Some old quick sketchbook thumbnail designs for mech enemies in the game. I have been working on concepts for this universe for a few years now so I have plenty to share!

Concept for the games protagonist ( before he gets his mech to ride in he undertakes exploration on foot).

Screw me. I quit gamedev. This looks amazing. I'll play your game instead...
The art on Tanuki is pretty crisp as well, albeit not my thing.
Love those silhouettes on the notebook there

Hi guys, ugabuga: Thanks!! migrafael I read an interesting quote once that tickled me, it was along the lines of 'The only thing you can do wrong with your creative work is stop making it!' Thanks for your kind words! Here is the hero Mech design for Umbilical. (the plan is to start the game as a the cowboy dude on foot, then have a few mounts and stuff before being able to eventually build a mech for him to ride in.
