So, is this for competitions with actual prizes?
that's not what I had intended.

Welp, awesome.

By the way, I think I'll participate in this KOTM. People should join in.

I might enter that too - it's midnight GMT until 2am, right?

Hey, Terry, are you going to enter the Poppenkast compo to (after having asked those good questions over there)?   In my case I was looking for an excuse to make a game in a couple hours, and this should be perfect!  Smiley

I took an hour and started something earlier, but it wasn't really coming together for me - might try again after chistmas Smiley

(Entered this month's KOTM!)

Yeah, I've got an idea, but I just don't know if I could pull it off in that time, and do a reasonable job of it.  I'll make something for that though, as I really need to get out of this game making funk I'm in right now.

And that's a pretty sweet looking KnP entry you've got there; I'll have to try it out!  Beer!

You'll also want to put up Lost Garden (http://lostgarden.com/) as Dan Cook does infrequent but compelling games *and provides the art assets for the implementation*!!!!

Have you considered using Google Calendar as another way of making this information available? It shouldn't be that hard to include a calendar with up to date game competitions - although I'm not sure whether you can embed the calendar in the forum interface.

Interesting, but I don't see anything about competitions on his site?

Yep-ish.  I'm not happy with the default google embedding options, and don't have time to code ones that would be any clearer than the list that's at the top of this thread (along with the announcements in the replies).

They're not very formal.  See this post for example: http://lostgarden.com/2008/11/fishing-girl-game-prototyping-challenge.html

Oh, right.  Totally missed that.  I've seen some of those challenges before, now that I check them out.  I've added a link to this page to the second list.

I got reminded of the competition Eegra.com held a while back and went to see if they're doing one again. Seems like they're planning another one around April '09.

Does any one know when http://www.shmup-dev.com/ holds its competitions? I have seen its past competitions and would like to enter but I never check up on them when they are holding registration. Also Xmass hack was awsome, but the event sponsor wanted to keep it allegro.cc only so I did not advertize.

For the more-places-that-run-competitions, allegro.cc's community has a bunch:

almost-yearly 72 hour: http://www.speedhack.allegro.cc/
similar to speedhack: http://blog.bigcat.unimaas.nl/~martijn/tins08/index.php
1 hour competition, held whenenver at least a few people are interested: http://cgamesplay.com/minorhack/
christmas competition: http://xmashack.bafsoft.com/

There's also a competition listing here:
http://wiki.allegro.cc/index.php?title=Competition_listing
although it is not kept up to date.

Some more from there:
Retro remakes: http://www.retroremakes.com/wordpress/competitions/

Thanks zaphos  Smiley

The last one was in 2007, so I'm inclined to not link to it for now.

TINS was late this year, so SpeedHack was skipped (which is not run yearly, but every 13 months), for ChristmasHack takes place in December and it wasn't wise to have two allegro.cc competitions running at the same time. Next SpeedHack should take place during spring next year.

http://www.mominis.com/gamecast1/

Mo'Minis is running a competition using their software.  It is a Game Maker-ish program designed to make mobile games.  I really don't know much about the software, but thought others might want to take a look at it.
