@Jad, I like it! Programmed an animating rig for this guy, learned loads about inverse kinematics in the process! Reckon I could have a good crack at coding a robotic arm!

Oh man that's gorgeous! Did you reference anything to make that? Not exactly. I looked at some pop art style 2d effect animation used in Japanese and Korean music videos and I also looked at some paused frames from super smash bros 4 u (though I feel those vfx are both a bit genius and lacking) I also came to the realization that even though I adore the control over motion that you get with 24fps or 30fps for animation in flash, if you want both quick-to-dissipate AND smooth, you gotta go 60fps. so I did

Here is a progression of an animation test I did for a game on which I'm working. I was trying to get the feel of the swing just right so I posted the first GIF on another thread, and with the feedback I made some improvements. Now, I'd like to know what you guys think about it! First: Second: Final:

For one thing, you should probably base the movement off of the back leg rather than the front (i.e. plant the back foot in place, move it forward). It should probably lean forward more as well. Basically, overselling it (way too much) is better than underselling it (keeping a character too stiff) when it comes to animation, I think.
It's a pretty nice animation as it is, though.

First: Second: Final: There's kind of a lack of anticipation there. The swing is a bit sudden, and ought to have a preceding movement such as the arm moving back before the swing. Otherwise, I like it so far.

I see that the footing is not correct, try shifting weight from the front leg to the back leg during anticipation and then using the back leg as base and the front leg gets a little lift to counter the rising arms momentum as it does its clock-wise circle.
Also, it seems to me that the arm swing does a half circle, then suddenly stops mid-air and is retracted towards the torso. Maybe try giving it a little more time to fade-out the CW momentum after the whip crack hits and before pulling it back.

Here, it's not an iteration on the swing, but it did help me figure out anticipation a bit. (Swiggity swooty, I'm coming for that Rozy) - "AH! where did my upper body run off to?"

Looks like this thread died too soon. Here's an attempt revival. Have been making some animations for buildings in a 2D RTS game.

Not sure what this will turn into. Im thinking a lot about the game that this character might exist in. In the mean time, I'm enjoying just doing the animation
