I am a fan art fan is it a thing to make fan art of other fan art? also: Might as well post this here 'cause I'm proud enough of it to spam This is for Dino Dearest, which currently exists as a neat demo but is being developed into a NEW COOL game with NEW COOL art.

This is pretty charming, digging it! Stylistically super solid - it looks very confidently drawn and the western/manga mix is just the right blend. Make a comic!

Huh, really? Why do you say that? I think the fuzzy chalky look definitely has some charm, but for me the added detail and clarity in the new version is worth losing a little bit of the goofiness. Also - it's a game about dating (pretty neurotic) dinosaurs, so we probably have some goofiness to spare.
The final version will probably land somewhere between the two. The linework is a welcome addition for me, but the shading detail will make it pretty hard to animate.

i like the old version too, i guess it gives more freedom to interpretation. With the new version, can't unsee some hipster tone and somewhat gets into the uncanny valley furry thing.

Oh, that's a good point. Haha, that reminds me - I really need to reread Understanding Comics:

So pretty! I wish I had that confidence in my strokes. My stuff is all smudgy and blurry because it takes too long for me to find the right forms.

sometimes i find that it helps when there's a time limit when doing studies. only having 5 minutes to draw something really pushes you to learn the forms and how to convey them with you brush strokes, and helps you to avoid focusing too long on a specific area. Figure studies are a great place to start out too, and now they have a whole series(200+ videos) for figure drawing on youtube. I definitely suggest to any artist that wants to work on their technique to do these at least once a week.

Thanks! I found a website a while ago that had some exercises where it would flash you for a few minutes/seconds and you had to do your best. Then it changes again.
