Ha, I love the descriptions in the first post. This is a random mock-up. This is an unfinished model of Lovecraft (Err, sorry about the hair and clothes). These are a few (digital) still lifes I did a couple years ago.

I have a whole bunch of stuff on my site... not this one yet, though: I could list all the billion things I hate about it, but people think I'm annoying.

Is it her face?
Because... She really dosen't look to enthusiastic about the fact she has a gun... Maybe she wants one of them big ol' oversized bazookas.

I'd complain if it was life-like.

Konjak: Usually, when I feel weird about a piece, I flip it horizontally, and draw a layer of sketchy anatomy over it, using references. Just looking at it, I think there is a problem with the knees; also, making the upper coat a tighter fit would probably help locate the shoulder(it looks a little too low, maybe because of the fur outlining). Here's one I'm working on now, for my portfolio. I'm really into reflections and lights right now, how it defines dimensions and shapes. It's about 35-40% done.

Oh, I still consider myself sort of an arts beginner... I am not at all as patient as I should be, and while I can see some flaws, sometimes I leave them. That's not to say I'd be awesome did I spend more time on it! I have several anatomical and lighting issues. I do flip images around a lot, but I often grow bored of a motif after a while. I think I do better with this style: http://www.konjak.org/art/succubus.jpg (semi-nude). But some of my impatience shines through (ahem, background and wings). Thanks for the feedback!

I am not at all as patient as I should be, and while I can see some flaws, sometimes I leave them. What paint program are you using? I see you're using a round brush for most of your work. I have some photoshop settings that make even the round brush very dynamic, hard to control perhaps, but it really helps establishing shapes quickly and keep you on your toes. In the brush shape dynamics, assign both angle jitter and roundness jitter to the pen pressure setting. You can also put a large scrambled detail texture in your strokes(I created mine mixing satellite photos of the city of Bam, moon surfaces and crackled paint scans).

Part of the impatience IS that I use the basic brushes. I don't change size very often either, but I will improve. Thanks for the tips!

Also, be very wary of detail rendering something you're unsure of. You should be ready to totally skewer your own work if you feel the shadow of a doubt. When using x-rays on classical paintings, we discover that most masters of the time would sometimes start and work a lot on the piece, and then just savagely paint all over it because they were bothered by composition or details. Also think of your light source, it really helps giving volume (arne has some nice tutorials/articles on his site about this). With your art style, I'd recommend using the Masamune Shirow technique for eyes and nose(two parallel lines for the eyelashes, and a small triangle for the nose). Putting some red on the nose afterwards help giving some life to the character.

Flat coloured/cleaned version of an ink abstract I posted a while ago. I was going for a semi-60's colour scheme. Edit: Is photography accepted in this thread? I'd create one, but it seems kind of silly to have another whole thread JUST for photography when there's this thread.
