Hello everyone!
I'm workin on redesigning my website but I don't have much inspiration... So, I thought I'd seek out some help here. Can you point me some well designed website so I can inspire myself? I already checked but the more the merrier! Or perhaps you could tell me how do you start the design of a webpage?

Usualy, I don't have much trouble doing this kind of thing but when I do it for my own personal site, it never seems to work...

Thanks for your help!
Guert

You might want to check out Open Source Web Design. They have some neat layouts you can get started on.

I love the Designers Republic.

I wish they'd do more videogame stuff, and I also wish their website were better.

i just want their glorious return to wipeout.
things havent been the same since wip3out.

a lot of designer's republic's core talent splintered off and started new studios.
but still, they invented futuristic.

I'm in the same boat, searching for reference.  I've been leaning towards Japanese gaming sites.  I have not idea what's going on but I really like their layouts and aesthetics.  Stuff like this:

http://www.falcom.co.jp/sora_3rd/index.html

I've also been hitting Kuler up lately for interesting color swatches:

Chiptune is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.  Not something I'd recommend for a "site", but still very cool.

Again, some very nice web designs...

I think I'm going to go further with my "retro-gaming"-like design... God it's hard to find something that truly reflects my personality... Sad

that kuler thing is AMAZING!
man, i wish i knew about that 6 months ago.
i spend SO MUCH TIME tweaking color palettes. this makes it a lot easier, and faster.

Whatever you do, make it simple. There's nothing worse you can do to a website than making it difficult and complicated to navigate. I find a bar across the top with links to each section of the site is easiest. And be sure to have a "HOME" at the bottom of the page, or somewhere. I dislike using my Back button for some reason, and Home buttons on every page make it easier.

a good design rule of thumb for information interfaces is to try and have any bit of information accesible within 3 clicks from the main index. nothing should ever be more than 3 clicks away from anything else.

its harder than it sounds.

NO FLASH NAVIGATION

That's my number 1 rule for websites. Smiley

Indeed. I want something very simple and a very fast navigation. Right now, everything is accessible within 3 clicks and moving from one info from another only uses 3 clicks, all in pure and simple html to be 100% compatible with everything.

Thanks again for all the nice websites... Very interesting!
Later!
