Nice environments and cute character models. Good job so far! How're you finding learning Unity?

Thanks!

About Unity, I find it very easy to use. C# is similar to JAVA, and the general gameobject / component system is powerful. So far I did not find any problem implementing my ideas, and the community is huge, with most of my questions already answered on the web!

Wow the game actually looks really good, especially the shaders and lighting that you implemented. The style reminds me a lot of the remakes of FF3 and FF4 for the DS but with a much more beautiful twist. I assume the UI system is just placeholder for now?

Thanks!

The DS versions of FF3/FF4 have been my initial inspiration for the design and style, along with a few other games such as FF Gaiden on DS, and Bravely Default on 3DS.

The UI on these shots is the latest iteration, I don't have any plans for changes right now. If you have any critiques or suggestions, please tell me!

A few more shots from the October build:

Bonus, here's the same scene as the last image, but from the March prototype. You can see how much progress have been made since, and it is still not the final look!

I get some Final Fantasy 7 vibe from the last 2 screenshots.
It's funny to think that novadays real time graphics can look way better then pre-rendered backgrounds back then.

The first part of Final Fantasy 7 was a big inspiration for the mood of this city. And yes, if FF7 was made nowadays, it would have been 100% real-time with backgrounds way more complex than the original, even with a non-AAA budget.

Upgraded the project to Unity5. Everything went smoothly (well, apart from light-maping...), tough I still have a lot to learn about its new features.

Hi guys Smiley

It has been one year since I've started using Unity, and working on this project. Here's a shot showing the progress made since last year!

Oooooo that's slightly unnerving. The environment looks great!

However, I am not really a fan of the text box. Compared to the rest, it is very simplistic and sticks out. Maybe tone down the colour on it and introduce a simple border? Even a simple one a la Pokemon would make a huge difference.

Your project really has come a long way. Congrats ! The improvements are impressive and the artstyle of the 2015's version looks very nice.

I think blekdar has a point. The minimalistic design of the textbox doesn't match the vibrance of the ingame graphics. It would really help to adjust the design a bit to get it on a similar level.
