In the interest of actually giving this game an understandable name, the game has been renamed "Bear Hero". They're still B-Airs, but they're also bears.

I'm rebuilding the game from scratch, primarily because it outgrew its former engine. Progress has been slow because of boring life stuff, but in August I should have plenty of free time, so expect some new stuff then. Until then, listen to this tentative shop theme and watch me screw around in a generic test room: As you can see, there is now a run button, and I'm going to have larger maps (with view scrolling). However, the levels will still be, for the most part, on the small side. Now if a room really needs a couple extra spaces it can have them, though. Also, this version has gamepad support.

Oh, cool. What engine are you using now? Looks like quite a few platform rogue-something-similars are coming out sometime soon.

Yup, I've been using Game Maker since time immemorial I put off doing actually important stuff for a while and worked on more of this. Back to Testing Purgatory. Obligatory HUD bars, running over one space gaps, and spikes galore. Right now, I'm thinking just HP, MP, and your three equipped spells (that top-right zone) will be displayed in combat, with a coin counter maybe showing up in the bottom-left for a bit when you collect some. All the other info will be displayed on the pause menu, probably.

Most of your pictures aren't showing up - not sure if DropBox seems to like direct linking?

This looks awesome! I like that bear (b-air?) a lot.
Also I nominate that we just call "platformer roguelikes" "spelunkylikes" ("spelunklikes"?) because that's what they really are, and that's okay because Spelunky is amazing and should be the inspiration for as many games as possible.

I think I fixed the broken one, but I'll re-host if it continues to be an issue. This looks awesome! I like that bear (b-air?) a lot.

Sadly, I don't think that Spelunky's name lends itself well to a sub-genre (like Rogue does). But I agree that there needs to be a word for it!

Spelike?
Your guy seems a bit heavy, maybe? Like it looks like it might be a bit difficult to hop over spikes.
Cool gif, anyway.
