Damn, how did I miss this?
I've decided to try and make the computer game equivalent of The Seventh Seal. Whatever that'll be like.

Hopefully not too much like my entry, which is also black and white and 'artsy.'

Interesting.
I used to use KnP, TGF and MMF when I was younger. I'm sure looking back on it, most of what I made would count as B games. I might as well make something for this, I'll be nice to have an excuse to do something in MMF again.
Will there be any hosting provided for the creations, or are we on our own? Thanks in advance for answering.

Is doing illegal stuff allowed? I was just wondering if we could "borrow" music for the game.
Or maybe it'd be a better idea to just try to record ourselves signing the songs and use that for the music instead?

I wouldn't panic. Black and white and artsy doesn't describe anything I've come up with so far. (And if there are any similarities, I'm sure it will be to my game's detriment.)

Sounds like too much work for a B-game competition to me. Ed Wood (of B-movie fame & failure) would always find friends willing to do the job for free, in exchange for some exposure. "Plan-9 From Outer Space" was a shining example of this singular skill, where the cast was made up of people he knew personally; the man may have been incompetent, but he was resourceful. In fact, the only real draw for the film was: "Almost Starring Bela Legosi". So on that note, just get a friend's garage band to bang out a song or two, even if they're awful. Pay them with beer & pizza if you must. Especially if they're awful.

I think "not allowed" is the definition of illegal.

I don't think you'll get in too much trouble for reappropriating some music. Hell, we used a song from DDR for I'm OK and the only person who threatened to sue us was Jack Thompson, not the RIAA.
I'm going to be using some religious hymn midis for my game. I think some tasteful stealing will make a B-game all the more awesomely bad. This is just my opinion though and Derek probably would not want to officially sanction any stealing of any sort so it's all your responsibility if you get sued for a million billion dollars.

Hah, I'm gonna enter into this 'un for shits and giggles. I'm gonna try to make the gameplay good, though, and instead base it on an inherently broken concept rather than the murder porn approach that seems the norm 'round here.

We should soo make a compo about: "Make a game to get a threatening letter from Jacko. The game that gets the most hilarious letter wins". Entering I'm O.K. doesn't count.

I plan to push the boundaries with Jack then Going to collage as many rappers heads as possible, but also going to mix it with some original art, will probably look like warioware gone wrong. Oh and im ripping all there music tracks too, then remixing them to make them "Awesome", I want my letter too.

My project is a dadaist adventure game where you play a young Marcel Duchamp in his attempt to revolutionize the world of art. My only worry is that, if I can manage to finish this in a month, it might actually be too good for a B-Game.
If anyone's short on ideas, my two original ideas which I decided not to go with were:
1. A (possibly sidescrolling) game based around repeatable bugs. Doing certain things, such as touching the left side of a tile or touching the ground after a jump while holding left would cause the game to up and crash (by just trying to write to random memory or whatever). More bugs would be added as the game progressed to up the difficulty. This would be maddeningly frustrating, but I kind of enjoyed how it would use simulated bugs as part of the gameplay. Also, this game would probably chew up your system resources if you played it for long enough.
2. Handholder: a game based around approximately a half hour to an hour of tutorial on such advanced concepts like 'walking to the right' and 'jumping.' When you finally finish the tutorial, you start at one end of a screen with flat terrain, at the other end of which is your final objective. In case you have, by this point, forgotten that you press the right arrow key to walk to the right, generous hints are provided.

Ha I really like this idea. It would be really funny, explaining all the things that are always assumed in games. I can just see the tutorial now: Pressing start will put the game in "pause" mode. When the game is on "Pause", it is as if time is standing still in the game, the player cannot move and neither can the enemies. And don't worry, you can get out of "pause" mode any time by pressing start again. This is a great feature if you want to take a break from the game, but you want to come back later.
