I've never done any pixel art or spriting before, so this should be an interesting experience. I'm still learning everything about pixel art and art in general, so expect everything to be rough. To start off with, here's a couple of things I put together today really quickly. I'm starting simple.

I made a new thing, it's a pedestal that's going to have a ball floating over it. I think I may have overdone it on the shading, I'm not sure it looks all that great.

Suggestion for the pedestal: you're mixing smooth lighting gradients (from the green ray) with very banded lighting (from the top left). It would look better to use either smooth or banded lighting for both things.
